Sometimes it's a matter of finding a way to explain it to the owner in a way that the owner can understand and identify with.
However, I am guessing that you lost the owner's trust over the incident you describe. You may want to recommend a different trainer in the area. Warn the trainer of the situation.

Now, while I'm initially pretty harsh, I'm not evil. I've done the same mistakes and learned the hard way. The really hard way.
If it was your dog, you would have started out the correction well - with a scruff shake. But the mistake was in continuing the correction in the name of asserting dominance. When the dog stops the behavior, the correction stops immediately.

You need to learn to release your tension immediately as you release the correction so that after the correction, you go back to the same relaxed or playful state that you and the dog were in before. If you can't do this, your tension and the dog's aggression will escalate until you "loose it." Until you establish this relaxation after a correction as your default, keep sessions SUPER-SHORT.

Also read "Purely Positive Training" by Sheila Booth. It's sold on the main Leerburg site.

I recommend taking a training class that uses clicker training/operant conditioning. You'll get enough practice to reprogram your brain a little bit.

I agree, also, I would not display pictures of my dogs as you are displaying here.
Maybe it is just play and you caught it with the camera at a "bad" time, but I would never let my dogs corner each other like that. Especially with the size difference.

I was looking at it and to me the goldens (?) body language would be telling me that the situation could turn ugly if the pug decided it did not like being cornered.
I would have vet bills for stitches if I allowed that here at my house. Until The Tale of the Lioness is told, the Story will Always Glorfy the Hunter

Carol, you read my mind. My first thought was, wtf? Then I thought...I HOPE they are playing, but the pug looks uncomfortable.
Anyways, Angela, you have stumbled accross a great site. I found this place about a year ago, but barely joined a few mos ago and have learned so much! My relationship w/my dog, although was good, has greatly improved and I can tell she enjoys working for me & with me. Everyone here is a nice group of people. We might come off a little harsh at times, but it's all in honesty.

As others said, start off w/the e-books and articles. The podcasts are great because you can be doing stuff while playing them on your pc and of course the videos are awesome. Good luck!
