You all TOTALLY rock. Thanks for further explaining Care Credit. Based on what you all said, I'm thinking of getting VPI and Care Credit. Here's my thinking for that: I can roll over whatever difference there would be in VPI coverage onto Care Credit, assuming my vet takes Care Credit...will call and find out. (I'd put all of initial cost on Care Credit, then when VPI reimburses their part, would send that money to Care Credit and pay the rest out of pocket over a few months if need be.) At least I know Care Credit would be there should I need it. That would keep my regular credit card free for trips I occasionally like to take. (Everything else gets paid cash when possible )
I got a quote from VPI website for Lear at $19.33/mo, which includes the $2 fee for paying monthly, for the VPI Superior Plan. Sounds like a good rate, with a $50 deductible. I'm not getting the "Vaccination and Routine Care Coverage" option, just the "major medical". It seems other pet insurance companies charge a lot more (one quote was $45 apprx!).
I have a call in right now to get a dummy policy from VPI. Ok, waited just a little over 10 minutes (888 number so who cares much), guy on the phone is sending me a dummy policy and gave me the same quote as their website, and gave me his personal extension.
Mike, I'd sure be interested in what VPI pays you for your claim. Please let us know when you find out?
Thank you ALL for your excellent info and advice. You really helped to make a complex decision easy. If you think of any more "heads up" or advice, please post
Sandy, I'm glad we made it easier to select. I was also thinking getting both would be a good idea. Heck, Care credit doesn't cost a thing to have. Plus, the way you plan on using it, then pay it back with your reimbursement sounds like a great idea. Keep us posted.
