Wow, thanks for all your comments guys!
All my free time seems to have been sucked up lately by that little furball
Sarah: Aja smiles - constantly. You're not imagining it, she always has the sweetest expression on her face... anyone who sees her just melts
Connie: yep, you got the pronunciation right. Her name is pronounced "Aya" in German and "ah-sia" in French (sort of, there's no exact equivalent for the sound in English).
The reason I didn't go with the French version is that "AH-sia" is how we pronounce the word "Asia" in Japanese so it seemed a little weird to be calling her that. Hehe.
Hey Connie, are all your dogs second-hand or "used" or do you raise puppies too?
I can't remember the last time you mentioned dealing with a puppy... maybe it's time you tried your hand at raising one again
sounds like you're catching the fever anyway, haha!
(Psst, Angelique still has one left... and you two are practically neighbours! Come on Connie, how about a puppy eh?
)
Debbie: thank you!! I think I'll need the luck - this puppy is INTENSE! She'll be a real handful as she gets older, I'm sure.
Sue: lol, you'd know better than me what colour she'll end up! I really don't know, I'm not the expert that you and Angelique are on shepherds
My guess is that she'll look like Steve's dog, Eich. A lighter bi-colour?
You'll be able to see for yourself soon when she grows in her adult fur - I'll post a lot of photos of course!
Jennifer: Absolutely, I wouldn't have taken a kibble-fed overly vaccinated puppy. That's why I was so thrilled when Angelique offered me this little one - she really did an EXCELLENT job as a breeder, I'm thrilled!
Howard: Taro is a HE
and if anything Aja was munching on HIM!! He'll probably lose some of his face skin by the time the little one is grown up, haha. He's too patient with her, I can't believe he hasn't tried to stop her attacks yet
Angelique: you picked a fantastic match for this breeding!! I can't believe how fearless and full of life Aja is. I've never seen a baby show as much confidence as her... I haven't so much as seen her hesitate and I've been exposing her to some pretty weird things (including big empty carboard boxes falling around and on top of her, smacking sticks right next to her on the ground while she's biting the rag, watching fireworks go off a few meters away, the vaccuum, barking dogs, meeting strangers at night, etc. etc.).
Her reaction to anything new is to take a flying leap at it and clamp down!!
Heh. Yes we have nice green landscapes, but we also have the mosquitos that come with that
Oh well, nowhere is perfect I guess - Aja certainly loves attacking plants and trees. She consumed a dandelion earlier this evening
Sefi: thank you! I hope I can bring her to her potential! She's such a wonderful and talented puppy; I will definitely try to bring it out of her
Sandy: hahahaha, Aja bites the heck out of poor Taro whenever she sees him and he just takes it all. He doesn't even look annoyed - he gets this gooey lovey look on his face when she's around and just LOVES getting chewed up by her! LOL.
I don't want her to bond too much to him so I really limit their time together. Usually no more than 1 or 2 minutes together a day. That way she bonds to ME
Melissa: thanks! I agree, I do think she's a little beauty.
Carol: I don't know how you can handle so many dogs and puppies at once!!! You must teach me!!! Let me know if you plan on holding seminars on how to raise multiple puppies
Are you still planning a mal litter? How exciting!! Try not to lose too much blood and skin, lol.
Alex: thank you! Aja's enthusiasm for everything is infectious. It's impossible to be mopey when she's around - I find myself laughing constantly when with her. She's such a funny sweet little thing
Jason: devil is right! Man, you've raised one that looks a lot like her. How's lil Isis doing anyway? I can't even imagine trying to keep mine quiet, I don't know how you do it!
Amazing how much and how quickly we get attached to these little demons isn't it?
My best wishes to Isis - hopefully she'll be back to her energetic self in no time!!
(By the way, your male Panzer reminds me of my male Taro. Taro was also a very laid back puppy that STUCK to me like I was his mother. Panzer sounds just like him, maybe it's just a male thing, lol - you'll have a constant companion by your side in him, that's for sure!)
Natalya: hahaha, thanks! Don't encourage her evil tendencies too much though. I was hoping to channel her energy and smarts into good
Yep, they don't get anymore expressive than Taro. I can't even express how much I love that dog - he's the most affectionate and gentle creature you could imagine. My best friend and soulmate
)
Michele: yeah, I can just imagine the breeders sharpening their pups' teeth... after all, they had to get chewed up week after week by a whole litter of monsters, I'm sure they're all too eager to share some of the suffering
Glad you're having so much fun with your little Cato!! I love his pictures! Why so few of them??
Mike: there's definitely a special attraction that one feels with those dark shepherds. I have no colour preference really; I have a black & tan, a sable and a bi-colour now and I love 'em all! I can just imagine how shiny Aja will be once she loses the puppy fuzz and grows fur
Yeah... the shipping process was a complete and utter nightmare. Frankly it would've been easier (and probably quicker) if I had just
walked back from Nevada to Ontario carrying her in my arms. Yeeeeesh!!!
But it was SO worth it in the end. The travel stress is quickly forgotten and makes for some fun story-telling once it's over
Jan: thank you very much! I'm enjoying every minute of this puppy joy that she brings! I love how everything is so new and exciting for her - I just can't help but smile when she's around, she's such a little darling.
I have to say though, I am looking forward to her maturing. I can't WAIT to start training her; imagine how much fun she'll be on a schutzhund field! Glad you like the picture! I took a million of them and luckily some of them turned out nice
She doesn't hold still very long so it's hard, lol. She only lay down on that rock for like 6 seconds before bouncing around again!
Amber: oh believe me, I was stressing like you wouldn't believe!! I was absolutely horrified that this poor little baby was stuck in that crate for so long. I was so relieved when I heard her barking with such loudness and energy - at least I knew she was still strong.
I did the skin-pinch test to check her hydration level. She was a little bit dehydrated when I finally got her out, but not too badly. I was surprised that she was in such great shape and spirits.
I guess she probably just napped through the whole ordeal and didn't even realize all the complications and headaches that were going on around her
Ahhh, if only I could've had some of that puppy oblivion! Lol.
I'm so glad to have been accepted into your bi-colour club with Aja!! It'll be fun to see how all our pups' colours change and develop as they mature!
And yeah, the mutts are keeping me busy
Considering that Aja still sleeps most of the day, it's really not that bad though. Taro and Moka still get the exercise and training that they did before she came. So far everyone's happy and contented - I hope I can keep it that way
And I hope the wedding plans are going well!! Do I get to see a picture of your dress? (While I have no interest in getting married myself, I do love admiring wedding gowns, go figure, lol).
Phew, again thanks for all the kind comments and encouragements!! I love this board and all the experience and stories that you guys bring to it. It's a nice feeling to have this kind of support and to know that I can always come here for help if I have any problems or questions as I raise and train this baby.
Thanks guys, you're the best
