Never noticed any of my dogs having a problem with bones during teething. I have raised up a dozen or so pups in the last 5 or 6 years and none of them seemed fazed by the bones. Chomped them right down!

I feed my dogs green tripe instead of veggies.I buy it frozen and in 2lb. bricks. When it is green tripe day I just peel the frozen plastic casing off and let them chew the frozen block. They go crazy for the stuff and they have a ball w/ the block as they gnaw on it!!
No one ever said life was supposed to be easy, life is what you make of it!!
I have another question: About how long should it take to see/smell a difference in my Lab's ears? He has had stinky ears since I got him almost two years ago, so I have been practicing a regime of regular cleaning, per the advice of my vet, who says it's from atopic allergies.
I decided to try changing the diet, cutting out grains and dairy (though I have mixed raw eggs into the veggie patties). What kind of time span would I be looking at before I arrive at the conclusion that it is not dietary after all, and that my vet was right?
There is an article on the detox process on here too, but I will be darned if I can find it today!
I think the amount of time will vary on how healthy he is otherwise. My dog went through almost 2 months of looking like crap before he looked good, but he had been fed some pretty nasty kibble before I got him. I do fast both of my dogs once a week as well.
Thanks for the link, Deanna. I have noticed that the consistency of his eye discharge has changed in just the last two days since I switched to raw. Before, it was more watery, but now, it's thick like mucous.
Depending on where you live (remind me) there are several sources of green tripe available. They can be found by doing a search in Yahoo or google. Martin's K9 is an east coast source and greentripe.com is a CA source. I don't feed it as it is too expensive to have shipped here.
The mucosy stuff is normal... his ears may actually stink more than normal until he gets rid of all the crap in his system as well. Either way it will be hard to tell if it was actually allergies or diet by the time you have let him go through this. We are headed OUT of allergy season.
I'm in Oregon. I found a supplier for hormone/anitbiotic free, free range chicken necks and backs for .89/lb, available in 40lb. cases. It's a store right down the street! I'd like to find a similar source for green tripe. I think I'll ask down at that store, since they have people who have been ordering the chicken parts from them for years. Maybe these same people order green tripe????
The only problem with the chicken necks (I bought 5lb yesterday) is that they are extremely fatty. Probably at least half the weight is skin and fat. I stripped it off the necks when I made up some meals yesterday, but if I have to keep doing that, then .89/lb isn't such a great price after all.
