I would like to get the Malinois on some organ meats. However, she and a (F) lab/mix turn their noses up at chicken liver, hearts, gizzards or beef liver.
This is embarrassing, so don't tell anyone I said it. My dogs totally refuse liver, which is the organ meat most easily available to me, unless it's cooked.
They were leaving it in the dishes for meal after meal after meal.... and these dogs are pigs.
I found out that if I cook it at all, even just the surface, they like it fine.
So I just dump the whole container of chicken livers into a glass baking thing and microwave it until it's brownish on top.
I have also thrown it into the regular oven when something else is in there.

Your secrets safe with me When I first was fed the Malinois ground turkey/beef, she would turn her nose up at the raw food. I started browning it and she was fine. I gradually cut back on the browning, and no problems since then.
Funny how they are. I gave her her first Vitamin E soft-cap. She bit it in half and after studying it for a while, decided to eat it. I feed the pack in the morning and will mix it in and see if she gobbles it down.
Tomorrow is chicken liver day and I'll nuke it and see how it goes. Thanks again for sharing your experiences!

Dogs like oil; I discovered that even with a dog who is puzzled by an E gelcap, if I pierce it once, the dog gets it that there's something s/he likes inside.
Your dog was clever enough to check it out for herself.

Oh Connie, now we can come out of the closet too My pig dog would do tricks for peices of lettuce, will eat any type of meat/food I have offered, but give him a peice of raw liver or kidney and.....refusal.
I have put liver in the blender with the veg and added it to the gound meat meals I feed. He will eat that no problem. If I have a ground meat meal I can actually just cut the organ meat into small peices with sissors and mix it into the meat and he will eat it.
Funny he thinks raw tripe is delicious, I almost barf whenever I feed it to him
I never thought of browning it, I guess I could brown a bunch and then refreeze it to be served later?
Cheers

Lightly browning the liver made the difference. Both dogs who refused it when raw gobbled it up with no hesitation. The liver was raw on the inside but cooked just enough to change the outside. Go figure.
I pierce the vitamin E gel caps and put them in with the chicken neck/raw ground meat/egg/Salmon Oil and all the dogs eat them without hesitation.
What are the thoughts in using Fish Oil caps instead of the Salmon Oil?

Capsules are pretty spendy when you figure out how many you need to give if you want to give a gram (1000 mg) per ten pounds of dog weight.
For example, if you had 1000-mg caps (1 gram) and you had a 70-pound dog, you'd be looking at 7 caps a day.
The Vitamin E -- I used to pierce them too, but discovered that the dogs will eat them with no hesitation, pierced or not. Maybe yours will too.

I use a human, pharmacutical grade, wild cold water fish oil cap. (it is in a base of vit E) It is pricey, I have a 4O lb dog. He gets a fair amount of wild meat, I only give 2-3 a day, and sometimes I give Arctic Vigor instead of the caps (also pricey)
Cheers,

I had not considered using the Fish Oil caps for the dogs until I noticed them in the drug store. Salmon Oil is a little pricey and only one pet store near me carries the brand I use.
Between 3 dogs, I use 7 "pumps" per day. Using the conversion formula for the Fish Oil capsules, I'll be feeding 14 capsules per day. I'm not sure what the better price value will be but I'll do the math and find out.
Thanks again for the excellent advise.

One dog refused to eat capsules. I'd poke holes in them (the capsules...not the dog)and squeeze contents out. The dogs would get the oil but two of them developed gas that would drive you from the room.
I'm back to the Salmon oil and no more foul gas. It was also cheaper than all the capsules I was using every day.
The original shedding has slowed. I had the malinois to the vet and he was not concerned by her shedding. She has also dropped a couple of pounds since switching to the RAW diet. It's warm and humid here and she has no other symptoms. Her speed is up (as if I need her faster and her drive is over-the-top.
My vet is a strong believer in holestic treatment and suggested I switch from chicken livers to beef liver. His thought is that beef liver is better for the skin and coat. I'll try it and see how things go.
