One good lookin' pooch you got there! Your dogs live inside or out? To a fellow Canadian who actually lives WAY down south of you, at what temp do you generally see your dogs "hot foot" (by hot foot, I really mean lift up their paws at COLD temps )
I try to keep them out there all winter (inside at night) but Cali's kennel is usually under snow by December that’s when she stays inside, but Nuki his chain is long enough he’s out there all winter unless it is 50 below thats my limit (I’m sure he would be ok it’s just I worry about his big silly ears). Hot paws not sure about Nuki I haven’t seen him do that since he was a puppy, Cali maybe 25 below.
Although my dog is kenneled outside during the day in the winter, he does start to hot foot a bit at around 25 below as well. Mostly on groomed or packed surfaces. It is funny doing ob with a dog alternating hopping on three legs! Our temps are very mild for the Rockies generally though ( avg -10 maybe?), a couple of cold snaps of 30 below a season, but never 50 below. Brrrr.
Your right it depends on the conditions of the surface. Yes our cold snaps can reach 50 below and colder with the wind chill. Its funny when I call the weather station in the morning it well say "frost bite may occur within seconds of skin exposure"
thanks for all your replies and al your pm's he is the greatest dg. then again every dog i had, has been greatst. hahah ok im maybe full o myself. but i could say the same for Cali there isno artical she cant find.
