Mike - these are the two names that Jeff mentioned from his platoon (40 guys) Because of operational security I cant go into details (I don't know many anyway)
I do know the platoons are way out on their own in small fire bases. So the only guys Jeff has contact with those 40 guys.
Thanks everyone for taking an interest in this.

My wife and I "adopted" a ranger at an outer post a while ago. They don't have the same niceties as the soldiers at the big bases. Everything you send will be highly appreciated. Great thread!

My family would definitely like to contribute...let me know, Ed, if there's still a soldier that's not hooked up with someone back here at home. We'll be on it.

Mike its just these two soldiers that I am talking about -
http://www.leerburg.com/greenandrosa.htm
They will appreciate anything people send. They most defiantly are not (and have not been) at a big base. They now get one hot meal a day (*that has not been the case), they wash their cloths in an old cooler, it's 120 to 130 degrees during the day and they live in tents dug into the ground. They have no hot water. They have been way out there (no bath for a month) no phone all for 8 weeks because there were no phones.
When they go on missions their up-armored hummvee have no AC. To get a feel for this - juts turn your over up to 140 or 150 degrees and climb in it for an hour or so (because the windows don't come down and the doors need to stay closed.

I wrote Daniel Greens finance and told her that I had some dog friends that were sending him packages. She is a college student who does not have a lot of money.
She wrote me back today and here is her response. It kind of choked me up.

Ed,
Thank you so much. And thank you for sending packages too, cause I don't always have the money for them. I spent about 45 dollars on 2 packages, and I feel pretty pathetic.
These will be only the 4th and 5th packages I've sent. But I do send lots of letters. I just hope they make it there. At least the packages have plenty of pictures and food and (when I can afford it) nicotine.
Hope to hear from you again soon!

Angelique, I sent a letter Saturday to Ed Rosa asking what he particularly needed/wanted, but saying that I would send a package in the interim of stuff from Ed's list. )I wanted to send a letter, at least, right away, since the message says that he doesn't get mail at all.)
I wonder if you would PM me what you are sending so I could maybe send stuff that you don't.
Here's the list on Leerburg:
Foil packages of tuna fish, cheese whiz, wet ones, fly strips (those round tubes with fly paper that's pulled out), beef jerky, tortillas (the ones with only 8 or 10 tortillas - not big packages), cans of peaches, cans of oranges (not pineapple ), Easy Mac (this was a hit with them), gum and or life savers, and "They die for Coppenhagen"
I think Copenhagen is smokeless tobacco, like Skoal.
I looked up Easy Mac online, and it's a microwave-ready Kraft mac and cheese.
If you PM me with what you rounded up, then I would know what I could get to make the list as complete as possible.

Out of curiosity, how long does it usually take for mail/packages to arrive?
I'm really glad you posted this, Ed. This is something that I'm going to do with my son, too. It's good for everyone involved.

I read that letters to Kuwait will normally take seven to 10 days, according to the Military Postal Service Agency. Priority parcels will normally take 10 to 15 days. Surface Air Mail, or SAM packages, will normally take about 24 days, according to MPSA officials.
We need to use the soldier's full name (without rank), unit and APO address, which is what Ed provided on the web page linked in his message.
Amber and Angelique, I think you are so right about the project being a good one to do with the kids.
