The only thing that puts her into drive (makes her whine, ears_up, alert, excited) is the opportunity to A.)play with another dog and B.)chase prey.
I have used the next door neighbors puppy to get her to play tug with me (i offer the tug, if she's uninterested i tie her and play tug with the puppy in her view) and gotten her to whine, but not bark. It sure got her to play tug though.
Anton,
Do you know anyone with a cat or a hampster or something that you could bait her with, like you used the puppy, in order to get her into drive and hopefully a bark? Keeping the "bait" safe of course . I bet live prey would turn her on even more than another dog... My dog is also intesely prey driven, it's his purpose in life - we once found a squirrel in a have-a-hart trap (live capture cage) in my office and he went NUTS, crying and barking to get at it... just a thought.
*I wouldn't worry about her claws either - they grow faster than you probably want them to any other day, so they should fix themselves before you know it. Do keep an eye out, as someone said, for any infection on that one that looked worn the worst...
Yeah, Natalya, makes a good point. If you don't want to use a real live prey, I just thought about those fake squirrels that are attached to a motorized ball that move all over the place. Has anyone seen those before? I've seen them at the mall and I could see how a dog could go absolutely nuts trying to get it.
Really nice pic btw Natalya. Looks like it should be in a calendar.

Thanks Alex
Speaking of prey drive, that's Oscar on full alert, having just treed a squirrel (he always gets so angry that he can't get up there after them ). I've seen those motorized squirrels as well and I'm quite sure MY dog would love it - there is something to be said for the smell of a little rodent in distress though...
