Unfortunately the PC game is HUGE in law enforcement and we have to walk on egg shells every day because of it. I've seen a few departments in our area turn down some really nice pit's for that only reason... they are pit's and their "community" would go crazy if they put Pit Patrol Dogs on the road. It's a shame.
It really IS a shame. It's sad those who have the opportunity to change people's mind's about a breed that has to be the un-luckiest and most misunderstood, don't do it because of peer pressure. Not saying you Matthew, but PDs all over the country.
Politically Correct. Many departments don't want to use Pit Bulls b/c they feel it would reflect badly on their image. I had no idea image was such a big deal w/LE until I tried to sell a dog named "Blaster." Cops said the superiors wouldn't like the name . Selling them the dog named "Shooter" was definitely out.
If the dog has what we are looking for, we just change the name. We've had to do that on more than one occasion.

Yes, that's what they wanted to do. We refused on principle-why does it matter what the dog's name is??? Tell the public to go fly a kite if they have an issue with a K9's name, for God's sake. These people need REAL problems. It's not like the dog's name was really inappropriate, or racially biased, or something equally objectionable.
Roscoe's given name was "Kokso". That obviously had to go. :-)
Haha, yeah I can see that being changed. Like the black GSD we had named "Digger" and another GSD named "Nazi". We used the initials on another dog, "BJ" (you figure that one out). They just aren't quite suitable for public consumption.
