It's amazing how inconsidate some people can be. I had a neighbor who had a white poodle which would roam the neighborhood. She would just open her front door and let it out. Her attitude was that it wasn't hurting anything. Grrr!

You guys crack me up. I currently have a neighbor who has ankle biters and they also open the door and let them out without supervision. If I find anything in my yard, I just flick it over into their property with a garden trowel. I don't have a dog. If they don't care if their yard has poop in it, why should I?

Oh, you just hit a raw nerve. I live in a very rural area. Can't even see my neighbor's house. Our road is a dead-end and my neighbor and I are the only two houses on it. Ok, so clearly we know who's dog is doing what where.
My dogs never leave my property. I have a containment force field. Her dog(s) are always loose. Her female GSD would wander down the road and poop in my driveway every single morning. I picked up after her dog for five years, then one day I just snapped. I started a little poop collection and when I thought I had enough to make a statement, I deposited the feces sculpture beneath her mailbox, which (much to my dismay) sits directly across the street from my house. (Don't ask why her mailbox isn't at the end of her own driveway. It's a long story that sounds a little too much like Alice's Restaurant. ) I did the poop sculpture thing about four times before I noticed her dog stopped coming down to poop in my driveway. (The dog was still loose, it just didn't wander down the road anymore) I knew she couldn't blame the sculpture on my dogs because she knows my dogs can't leave my property, cross the road and poop under her mailbox. I think the only reason it stopped was because she thought her own dog was "marking" her mailbox. BWAH!

Jennifer,
I agree with you in that my 15 week old Cheyenne eliminates only before and after walks. Amazing what they can learn at such an early age just by putting in time with them.
Cheyenne has been somewhat "alerting' to car tires moving as we go on our daily walks. Yesterday, I took her to our downtown area (constant traffic) and we walked quite a bit. I only had to say "look" & "leave it" a couple of times before she stopped.
I live in a subdivision. When we walk, I carry her diaper bag with scooper, bags, water & bowl, and other assorted goodies just in case!
IMHO, it is just rude, socially unacceptable, and irresponsible dog ownership to allow this to happen in someone's yard.
(WOW! I guess I had too much coffee this morning!

Eek! Reading this thread has made me a little more paranoid! My dogs relieve themselves on my own lawn before we go for walks, but Digger is notorious for "giving seconds". Of course I always pick up after him, but does it really bother people that much?
I personally would rather dogs pee on my grass than the sidewalk in front, it'd stink after a while. We don't have a strip of grass on the other side of the sidewalk, just lawn, sidewalk, street.

If a dog pees on the border of my yard, it never has bothered me. A dog that is just marking doesn't usually pee a pint, anyway. When my dogs really have to go they go at home, anyway. What bothers me is the poop piles the owners don't bother to clean up. Luckily I live in the country now, but I haven't always. Nothing used to tick me off more than having to clean up poop from somebody else's dog. grr I guarantee it that nobody ever had to clean up after my dogs. I nevre left a mess for someone else.
