John, in addition to what everyone else has said about raw and worms having zero to do with eachother...keep in mind that when you switch to raw, the body does a "detox", and depending upon how long the dog's been on kibble and other factors, that could very well be adding to the lack of energy. As the body begins to actually get healthier, sometimes dormant problems are brought to the surface because the body feels it's getting strong enough to fight them. It's kind of like when people diet, they often feel great for the first 2 weeks or so, then plummet. It's a normal reaction to the beginning of better health. Both human and canine bodies can only deal with so much at one time, so as they become healthier, at times it seems like they're having setbacks.
Most likely, it was ALL because of the worms, but it's possible that you mistakenly saw progress as a setback, as many people do. Dr. Pitcairn goes into great detail on the difference between normal detoxing when starting raw and things that warrant a vet visit. I'll try to find it online, but I think it's only in the book.
Yes, thanks for all the informative replies. He seems to have gained a lot of weight on his kibble and did a second de-worming. I will give RAW another try tomorrow. This time, improvement or not, I'll stick to it for 2 mos to see if it will really work on my dog.
When I read the posts, I figured the squigglies might have come from his bite tug which had some soil after some bite work in our garden...
