HAHA! Those kids spend all their A/C money on exhaust and turbo, they don't know the meaning of practicality under the midday sun! What a good idea your hubby had.
That's pretty stupid of someone trying to kick a dog through the fence. I'm with everyone else, should have kicked him. Next time use razor wire on the outside. ;P That's what I did with my old apartment when kids tried to steal my dog from the porch, I set a huge "BEWARE OF RAZOR WIRE" sign out and put up some razor wire. Dog couldn't get to it and nobody else messed with her again.
Kimberly, I think you did good. Hopefully the cops did a little patrolling to see if they could find them and have a chat. I would have asked them to do that.
I'll tell you what I did when a man was at my front window (glass open, screen closed) at 12:30AM once. The guy realized I saw him through the blinds and took off running (coward). My adult son went out there with a baseball bat, I went out with my loud mouth. Didn't see him but yelled that if I ever saw him around my house again, I would get my gun. I didn't have a gun, but he didn't know that. That's what I would do if someone tried to hurt my dog. Then maybe that's just me
Edited to add: this happened before I had my last GSD, in the few years where I had no dog to alert me to creeps.
Personally I'd run a hot wire (maybe even more) along the fence on the outside where any one touching the fence would get zapped. This type idiot is just the person to touch the hot wires to see if they're on. And he'd deserve a good hard zap.

Personally i would have gone out there and asked him if he could kick me the same as he wanted to do to the Dog and then i would have made him look a right Prat in front of his Girl Friend
This situation was handled well. Personally, I really do not have to worry about this kind of stuff. Anyone that feels the need to mess with the house that has the 300 pound guy with 175 pounds worth of German Shepherds in it really has a screw loose. Kick my dog and I kick you. Come onto my property and after my dogs slow you down you get the treat of dealing with me and my Beretta. People that go looking for trouble will definitely find it.
Hmmm, seems to me a bullet to the kneecap would stop the kicking issue. Just kidding. Mostly. I'm afraid I would see red if someone was trying to harm my dog in it's own yard, but that's just me. I think you handled the problem very well. Probably much better than I would have. I agree it's not a good idea to let the dog go after him, no matter what the police said.

Most people like him are Cowards when they meet it face to face, I have met a few in my time like a lot of the other Guys on here probably have
making him look the coward that he is in front of his girl friend is the best antidote for him not to do it again
