I think you're giving him the bone and expect him to be satisfied with it. Sounds like it's a bone that is lasting a long time. Dogs like to have an affect on something in the sense that they like to destroy something until it's gone. Something that has some give. Doesn't sound like the bone is satisfying that need. Try a softer bone or a bone with more pieces to it, I like beef neck bones that have been sawed through. My rott will make that disappear in an hour. I give one every other day. I don't have a problem with consistent chewing since feeding raw with a few dogs.
Other than that smart boy and hilarious! But he shouldn't be doing it.

Bayley will pick up something socks are a fave, then pick up a toy trying to hide the sock in her mouth. Then I get that 'what me...sock..what sock!?!?!' look. That's about the only thing she'll steal and it's my fault for leaving my socks on the floor

Im on my 3rd rottie, and of all my problems, Ive never encountered this one. my puppy seems to be bored with nylabones and dental kongs (unless they're filled with something). I tried bully sticks, but I dont know ifnthats a smart thing. I waited 6 months before giving my other rotties that kind of chewables. I know rawhides at 12 weeks is not reccomneded, but does a bully stick fall under this catagory?

Did you know that you can just smear the cream cheese or peanut butter or whatever around in the Kong hole, rather than filling it, and then freeze it? Then the dog works hard at getting his tongue in there to scoop out the stuff.
Also, if you have two Kongs, you can usually have one in the freezer, ready to go.
When I watch mine go at that, I can see that they really do get jaw exercise.
Also, I bought some "beef straps" a couple of times that had no sugar/salt/smoke..... just dried steer muscle. These kept my guys occupied for an hour. Not sure how they'd be for the kind of dog who eats his crate, but I liked them. I have to look up where I ordered them.

BTW, I personally don't recommend rawhide at any age.

I agree about rawhide, but would a bully stick fall into this catagory?
and I like the frozen kong thing !! only hard part is that Im the same guy from the puppy forums...the one with the elimination diet... :-( I dont suppose there are other things I could put in the kong that coincide with his current diet?

First, if you are actually doing a real elimination diet, NO OTHER FOODS ARE FED. That would mean no rawhide, no bully sticks, no nothing.
If the elimination diet is a commercial food, then it almost certainly comes canned as well as kibble.
The canned version of the same food is both smearable and fillable for the Kong.
It can also be slow-baked in teaspoons on a cookie sheet to make treats.
Again, if you do an elimination diet, and if you choose to go with the vet's version (a commecial hypoallergenic food), then feeding ANYTHING else absolutely renders the diet useless.
The idea is to "eliminate" all foods the dog has ever eaten in his life in order to (1) remove all possible food allergens from the body (because food allergies develop over repeated exposure), and then (2) "Challenge" the system with the slow addition (one at a time) of the old foods, so you will know which one it was. (The challenge comes after the weeks/months on the elimination diet, after all symptoms are gone. If the elimination diet does not eliminate the symptoms, then the allergy is atopy or flea hypersensitivity, etc.)
While the commercial foods are not my choice for an elimination diet, if I decided to go that route, I would definitely not make it useless by feeding additional foods.

cool. I am using the royal canin (vet recc) venison and potato formula. hypoallergenic. I have 2 cans and a 20lb bag of kibble. frozen canned food sounds like a good idea. again, once the bag gets low, I'll do the change up slowly. Connie, you're awesome...

No changeup until the elimination diet is over. The canned and the dry should have exactly the same ingredients, which means there is no changeup involved in giving both.
