...vet told me the only way they will have a reaction to vaccines is within a day or two...I explained about the vaccinosis and they said it was not possible...
My opinion of that is a choice of two: Ignorance or lying.
Neither one is a trait I want in my vet. Ignorance can be cured, but only if the mind is open and working.
If you read up on Leerburg, and also about Dr. Dodds, or just google "vaccinosis" and start reading, because all the returns I saw at the top of the list were very good ones, then you can be prepared for making an informed decision with your next pup.

Marty
I'm so sorry to hear about your pup, I know it was painful to see your dog go through that.
I had a recent puppy tragedy also, which started my research into vaccinosis. It still makes me angry that we have been duped for so long into thinking that vaccines were good for our dogs, when in fact they are harmful.
After you do some research into vaccinosis you will be more informed about adverse reactions to vaccines than most of the public, vets included. It will help you heal the pain of loosing your pup and prepare you for when you get another dog. You will also be more inclined to question everything your vet wants to do to your dog.
I would also add that the improved health that comes with feeding your dog a raw meat diet will help to keep their immune system strong so that they are less likely to be affected by any dog diseases that the vaccines are supposed to protect them from.
Most vets will push you to vaccinate and try to discourage you from feeding raw. There are many people not vaccinating and feeding raw and they have healthy dogs, despite the dire warnings of veterinarians.
My prayers are with you.

I have seen my own vet move from giving just about every vaccination except bordetella as a matter of course, plus doing annual "boosters," to now doing only the core vaccines and none of the non-core vaccines unless specially requested -- and annual boosters (which used to be given even to unwell seniors ) are now the exception rather than the rule.
Many vets ARE learning that the protocol they have been following came only from the pharmaceutical company inserts and had no other backup whatsoever.
But we need to be partners..... to learn and to ask ...... because the new information is just not getting to the right people fast enough. It's up to the owner.
Marty, you can be glad about this: that Smoke already did (and will continue to) make a huge increase in your awareness. His successors will benefit; your friends will benefit; your vets will benefit.

I get it about the resistance to the new info about overvaccinating. I had polio during one of the epidemics of the 1950s, right about the time it was in the process of being eradicated in this country..... by vaccinating. Remember smallpox? Tetanus?
But we went too far, IMO, and that's hard for many to recognize when they see the terrible child and animal death statistics in developing countries without access to vaccines.
I am angry about vets and doctors who don't stay abreast of new information. I have terrible suspicions about some of them and their profit concerns (and Science Diet fits in there, too).
But some just need to be prompted to learn about overvaccinating. The fact that a vaccine exists is not enough to justify using it.
And the way we can do that prompting is by firing our vets and telling them why. JMO.

there is no way Im letting any vet anywhere near my next dog with a needle...there is just so much conflicting information that I made the mistake of trusting the vet...thinking they were professionals and would not unnecessarily push meds into my dog....i guess you live and learn...unfortunately it cost me a very special friend who I will miss for a very long time.....this sucks!
RIP "Smokey toes" you will be missed buddy!

It sure does suck. I have so much empathy for you..... everyone on this board does, I feel certain.
This: "the mistake of trusting the vet" --- that's such a sad statement.
I sure hope you are clear on letting the vet know why he's being fired, and that you will do the FDA report.
My heart is with you.

yes i will let them know..I just dont understand howI can prove he died because of the vaccinations..vet told me he was poisioned and got into something. this was after i told her i caught him near some wild mushrooms. then talking to my fiancee we both agreed he was acting strage that morning before the mushroom incident. the vet was convinced that he got into something. it was very upsetting because i watched him so close. i just dont know what i want to do for vaccinating the next one. there is so much info out there and not all of it jives. this is very confusing as well. i just want to do what is best for him or her. Im kind of worried because of my failure to yake core of Smoke. anyway enough babbling I will not let this go untold to the FDA
RIP "Smokey toes" you will be missed buddy!

I have started to minimally vaccinate based upon the serious allergies one of my dogs has had. My puppy had 2 rounds of puppy shots and rabies, but that was it. I got a terrible scare yesterday. 6 month old would not eat or drink, vomitting & D for hours. Brought him to the vet, on iv all day, finally feeling better today. She said she was seeing a lot of Giardia. Of course I haven't been vaxing any of my dogs for that. They are house dogs and we have no standing water. He had been eating some mud and dirt earlier in the week, but that's all I could think of. Strangely my other dog had same symptoms 9 months ago, and was in the hospital for 2 days but she doesn't really eat or chew anything. She was eating Beneful at the time, so I attributed it to that. But now, not so sure. Not giving flea stuff, terrier had terrible reaction to it. Not seeing any fleas and groomers aren't either, so keeping my fingers crossed here.
