The best items for chewing? - my dog enjoys the area rug, the window sill next to his crate, and the neighbor's cat. Sadly for him I am vigilant and he mostly has to settle for his Kong, occasional marrow bones and Heidi.
It's kind of ironic. I'm paying $38 for 30 pounds of food so the dogs can be the healthier. Meanwhile my puppy Krieger is determined to eat as much junk as he can sink his teeth into.
Pamela-
don't feel bad. I forgot to mention, next to his kong, Gunners' favorite chew item is the hole he put in my kitchen floor! Now I really do have an excuse to get a new floor. Ain't puppyhood grand?
I'll try to add marrow for his chewing pleasure.
I started my Tervuren puppy on Innova Puppy food, too, and have also had the intermitent pudding poo. I switched my 12 yo Lab to California Natural about 3 months ago, and she has never looked better - the most beautiful coat in her 12 years! I was hesitant to put the puppy on Cal Natural, becuase the ingredients are so limited, I thought he may actually become intolerant to other ingredients later in his life, if he had never been exposed to them early on. So - a couple weeks ago I bought a bag of Canidae All Stages - and have been feeding some of that along with Cal Natural for the Lab, and the rest of the bag of Innova for the pup. This seems to be working now - coats are shiny, all poops are firm... life is good!
I have read on this board that it's not a good idea to keep switching food on a puppy, so I plan to stay with Canidae and Cal Natural. I liked the idea of Innova, but I have heard of it causing pudding poo in other dogs. That's just my two cents!
Forgot to add the chew items - my 14 week old pup is starting to teethe, now, too - and I give him whole carrots, right out of the fridge. He likes those, and they don't have the unwanted side effects of rawhide or pig ears. He also likes ice cubes, and will come running when he hears me getting ice from the freezer door!
