it's gotten all warm here again.....hmph. i wore a running shell jacket over my blouse to work today, that was it (well, aside from my pants and stuff, but you know what i mean )
she's 5 years old. every now and then i get guilt feelings for having her, b/c she was spayed, has perfect teeth - someone obviously took good care of her - and apparently animal control got her through an eviction. i keep on wondering if she (during her 'sigh' moments) wonders what happened to a family who probably loved her very much. none of what happened is my fault, it's just kinda sad. but i do love her, and enjoy her very much. she's the polar opposite of luc and they just crack me up when they're together.

she's teaching me a lot though. and what i have to watch with her is SO different from luc.
my mom and i took the dogs for a hike tuesday. at one point we encountered a couple with a bulldog-type dog ("boomer") off-leash. i immediately moved the dogs off-trail, called out 'my female isn't friendly'. they said 'oh, thanks!' and started calling boomer, who completely ignored them, and ran up the trail towards my dogs, and teagan. teagan does not tolerate other dogs running at her. i was in between, but i kept having to swing her back by the harness (luc was just sitting there, thank goodness he doesn't copy her in this), my mom got in between and got boomer in between her legs - he kept coming so i kicked him back (in the face, but honestly, it was for his own safety). the people - did they hurry to get their dog? no, of course not, they just kept calling 'boomer! come here' while he ignored them and teagan tried to go for him.
i learn a lot from that, but it also made me mad - why have a dog off-leash if it doesn't have good recall? why not recognize your dog is under threat, and i don't know - move forward to get it?! argh. it's a good reminder that i have to keep on working on her dog-on-dog behaviour, since it does change as she settles (from trying to eat small dogs, she now is intolerant of overly-forward approaches and will go for any dog that doesn't show proper respect - or so it seems to me), and that i have to be quick off the mark in catching the behaviour.
