It's almost like a boil. Kind of purplish. I just did the hot compress again. He seems to calm down when I do that.

I don't think so. I truly apologize as I was not trying to freak you out, and I only saw the pictures at the bottom after posting it.

It's ok. : - } I am thinking that they might have to though as it does look like a cyst type thing. Don't know if just emptying them is going to help him. Hopefully it will though. Man I hate seeing him uncomfortable like he is. I'll be thinking about him all day at work tomorrow until I can get home and take him in. I'll post after I get home and let you know what happens.

No matter what it is, it will all be anesthetized.
In fact, if it's just a cyst, then it will be aspirated and checked.
It'll be fine. Worst case is not very bad, and worst case in not very likely. Also, with the cone-head, he can have the relief of topicals.
One helpful thing you can do (no matter what it turns out to be) is to get him the soft cone-head. You can also set your alarm a couple of times tonight to hot-compress him. Lay out the equipment before you go to bed and it will be fast and easy and let him sleep comfortably.
It will be OK.

Connie is right, Anna.
Just from my own non-doctor observation when I worked for a vet, anal gland issues are fairly common and most are not serious. It certainly looks (and is) uncomfortable and it is unpleasant for all concerned, but it can be treated fairly easily and without a whole lot of discomfort for Chaos.

My Old Dog Charlie did have the problems of his Anal Glands filling up when he got older, But aI used to take him to the Vet to do the Job. a couple of minutes and its done, I would not do it myself if i did not know what i was doing,
The Groomer had no right to Do that Job, that is if it needed doing at the time

Ok, I took Chaos to the vet today, and yep it's his anal glands! The vet put him on CPC an antibiotic 3 pills, 3 times a day for 10 days. I have to take him back next Friday for a recheck. She said keep up the hot compresses to make him feel better and to help get the infection out. It has been leaking so she said that that's good. She was going to try to check the left one, but he cried and cried and went nuts on us, poor guy : - { So she left it alone and also said to keep the cone on him so he can't mess with his rear end. I feel so bad for him. He does seem to be in good spirits though. I will keep you posted on him. I called the groomer and cancelled my appointment for next week and can't go to the show either : - { The vet said no baths, and I don't want to show him without being cleaned up, and MOST of all, feeling better! That comes first over anything. I had these photos taken at our local canine health days last weekend. The one is just Chaos, and the other is Chaos and my 8 year old mix, Downy. This is Downy's first ever photo taken like this. She is really shy and timid and they couldn't get her to look at the camera until I said the word she loves most, LOL. "Walkkkkkkk"??? Man did she perk up then! Thanks for all of the advice.

So did the vet say it was infection? I am assuming so hence the antibiotics. Did she say that expressing them may have caused it?
I am glad it was nothing that required surgery.....and that he is going to be better soon.
Great Pictures BTW...
