They feed him Pedigree for large puppies. I used to feed him Iams.
PPl told me GSD's puppy period is his first two years. So I was planning to stick him with puppy food for that long.
Has he had the 4-way vaccination recently? If he has had a vaccination he may be sick from it. Raw beef liver is a very good food to help dogs get well. Amber Tech sells a Vaccination and Dewormer Detox. Their products are very good.
If he has not had the shot DO NOT let the vet or anyone else give him one when he's sick. And I would also advise not giving him one at all, ever (see vaccinosis).
A raw meaty bones diet would be best for him, not Pedigree or Iams or Science Diet, or any of the other cereal based dog foods. If you can't get the person taking care of him to feed him a raw carnivore diet, then there are several grain-free kibble foods available.
K thx Debbie, I'll take your advice and go get some beef liver and raw meat bones right away to see if he likes it or not. And I'll leave the vaccination for later when he gets better.

To clarify, Scott, Debbie didn't mean recreational bones. Not to speak for her, but I know she didn't.
RMBs are edible bones like chicken backs, and the whole raw diet was what "Raw meaty bones diet" means.
i bought a big meat bone from supermarket, peel off the meat, and i'll give him the rest of the raw bones with lots meat on it still.
for the beef liver, what i usually do is that I chop it into many small chunks and blend it together with his dog food. and i always blend one raw egg into it. He really loves it.
