OK Mallory here is the deal, the dog was deployed to apprehend the perp, not to stop him from jumping! The jump came after...
I jumped on you because their is no reason to call Will a jerk, and the others simply need to do the same , read the article again.
You have to understand that on this board you have many Law Enforcement members and families, including me, you can't post something that involves law enforcement officers and or their K9 and NOT READ IT THROUGHLY and then make a negative comment towards the officer or k9 and have it all wrong?! Does that makes sense to you???

it does make sense(my whole family is ex-military/cop, my dad is overseas now)though i didnt deserve to be jumped all over for asking about it. the article did make it seem like the perp was trying to jump off after the chase, BEFORE the dog reached him, which is more bad writing on their part than anything i did or didnt read.
and after some others were posting and made no comment to correct that, and then i get a string of you are a moron posts, well, that seems like a jerk to me.
like i said, i never said the handler did anything wrong or bad, and it sucks that the dog is gone, but i was asking about the whole bridge jumping thing.

Had you read Mike Armstrong's' comment you would have realized that you made a wrong judgement. Matt got it too! I mean common, it was not a hard topic to get, you're the OP you need to get it right , simple.
I am getting off this topic cause I don't think you get it..

Well said, Angelique.
It's not enough that folks with zero background about a subject feel the need to second guess an officer in a stressful situation that they themselves will never be in.
The add to the fact that the comment is made without even fully reading the article....
As an example:
I think I'll head on over to race car forums. I know absolutely nothing about racing, but I'm going to read just part of an article there and then second guess the drivers that have more experience than I'll ever have.
oh yeah, when people point out that I didn't read the racing article fully and that I don't really have enough experience to make an accurate evaluation of the event, I'll call them jerks.
yeah, that'll work... :
Enough on this thread for me, I'm outta here.

Not replying to anyone in general here, but, it is the new year and we should be celebrating.
I have not even read this story nor do I have the desire to so I cannot comment on it one way or another.
But I refuse to do it today.
It is unfortunate that most of the negative dog stories I have read are so chopped up by the media that you never know what the truth really is.
This dog obviously died doing his job and I commend him for that and will think of him when I toast at supper tonight.
For those that serve our country, protect our streets, find lost or missing loved ones, help solve crimes and apprehend the scum that needs more than a dog bite, and that detect seizures, cancer and help the physically challenged I stand up and APPLAUD each and every one.
Let's all make it a point to find some positive stories if we are looking today.
Until The Tale of the Lioness is told, the Story will Always Glorfy the Hunter |

i did read it, there is no reason to get upset. I don't work with these dogs, that is why i asked someone to help me understand this. at the rate you are going, no one should learn anything, and all the current trainers and handlers will die out because no one who doesn't already know shouldn't ask questions.
if i have no clue, then explain it to me instead of acting like a jerk.
Please check your PMs. Thank you.
