On more thing. The toys that seem to engage her the most during her little shark phases are a woolly lamb endorsed by the AKC and an obnoxious plastic chicken dressed in a santa suit that makes the most God awful chicken noise when bit upon. The honk makes me laugh every time I hear it and it gets Doucette really excited and into the toy.
got my pup at 6weeks 5 days. Only problem is he has poor doggy manners, hes too keen to play. This became very apparant when he began socialization. So i stuck him in with my parents gsp's who soon put him in place but i have problems when training with him being distracted by other dogs. i would deffinatly socialize alot, i was lucky having a very tolerant good natured 9 yr old bitch to baby sit the devil dog.
Thank you for all of your replies. A lot of times his bite is playful and gentle, but just today he had a tough bite in the palm of my hand and tore some skin back. Nothing a little cleaning and a band-aid didn't take care of.
I am attempting to distract him best I can with various toys. His favorite seems to be soft toys, but his interest in his Kong toy is getting more and more every day. When he gets focused on my hands it’s nearly impossible to get him to take the toy. When his focus FINALLY switches from my hand to his toy I praise him. I am going to just stay consistent with this and see how it goes. I am certainly open to more suggestions!
As far as potty training goes... he's doing extremely well. I've had him now for one week (7 1/2 wks old) and he's only had a few accidents in the house. All of course were handler error . I lost track of time and should have known he needed to go "outside". When I do take him outside he goes immediately (giving him praise every time).
He is very content in his crate. The first couple days was rough (crying), but now he doesn’t cry much at all. He’s already learned the word "kennel", and goes in willing when I give the command. He goes in VERY willingly when he knows its time to eat.
