What about mice? I've been considering ordering from RodentPro for some time now since they supply a lot of zoos and herpetariums.....if we feed the whole animal, pelt and all, isn't that completely balanced?

Sounds ok to me. I love feeding whole prey, but it's not always easy to do, esp. for a little dog. I haven't done it, but it sounds fine.

i have heard that some people do that.
As long as they haven't previously been lab mice, or injected with hormones or antibiotics, feeding mice should be fine.
Wild dogs will catch and eat small mammals and rodents, as do cats.
me, i would feed ground up mice, but if it has fur and a face, someone else has to feed it to them.
I eat meat, and feed it to my dogs, but i hate looking at it, lol.

Rodent Pro also has rabbits of all sizes and quail.
Chihuahuas can be finicky so I would be surprised if he would eat a mouse.

If I had a dog under 10# I'd just go with Natures Variety frozen raw food. It can get kind of pricey to feed to larger dogs, but it would be quite reasonable to feed to a little dog.

my dogs wont actually eat it if it has fur and face.
They will gladly maim it, kill it, fling it around for a while..then bury it somewhere until its rawhide, but they wont actually see them as food. I wish they would, it would be much better than bringing me gifts of mangled rodents!!!!
They will tear apart an entire cornish hen from the grocery store and eat it, or an entire skinned fish,
but not a freshly caught fish with organs skin and scales etc.

But he looks so weak and helpless!!! It must be a ruse. Sorry to hear about the parakeet.

This generally can be fixed. My one dog was shy at first about how to eat a whole fuzzy show bunny. Sawed in half or thirds, he understood what was under it, and went to town on it. The first time I gave a whole rabbit to Caleb, he backed up and looked at me like "I did not do this". I told him it was ok, and to "eat it" and he did and all was fine from then on. Sometimes, especially depending on what they're used to being fed, they may see them as prey, and kill them, but they don't see them as food (yet!).
And thanks, Debbie. I have to admit once I got over the shock, it was a bit entertaining...tiny dog looking innocent with just one small, downy feather perced on his teeny little nose.

I just dont think I could handle sawing bunnies in half, or thirds...chicken I can detach from but Id still like to avoid plucking it if at all possible!
I was offered a BUNCH of free bunnies once to feed the dogs, it would have kept them in meat for quite some time.
But they came furry, whole, and breathing.
So i had to pass on that one.
