You can purchase many basic medications through equine and cattle supply places, just labeled for other uses. Amoxicillian, penicillin, etc can be purchased labeled for use in fish tanks (fishmox is the name of one of them) or livestock. Same for other items that usually only the vet will dispense such as panacur. You have to be able to figure out the correct dose, since it's labeled for horses not dogs, but it's usually cheaper and can be done without a prescription. One website I use is http://www.lambriarvet.com.

the one thing too if you do end up getting a prescription from the vet, check what the dispensing fees are vet vs. human pharmacy.
(also, i'd ask for a scrip that will cover a long period of time so you can have a good stock on hand)
Me too.
We can't be giving dosages for RX meds on the internet. Yikes! If anyone wants to post a link to some vet med site that gives dosing info, that's the way to go.

I'm glad! I have been thinking this may be something I should look into. I have one cat who is the "great white hunter" around here (yes, he's white) and seems to get more than his share of injuries. I, like you, have no problem treating my animals, and have even given injections and fluid under the skin myself. Where were you finally able to get them, may I ask?
I ended up calling my vet out of town who knows i treat my animals at home with no problems and she called some in for me after I explained the situation and gave her weight and other pertinent information.
I might get a bill for a phone consult, Im not sure LOL
If she was a dog i would do the penicillin injections, but im not comfortable giving this cat shots!!
