I've started the log and gone backwards to add approximate dates when the problem arose and added foods, meds, etc. The "plain yogurt" was an important point. About the best I can find has 6 live cultures, so hopefully that's enough. I have some fish oil and vit E that he's getting now. Does anyone know a place I can get plain salmon oil in capsule form? I'm not too sure why pred didn't work, if it's supposed to be the magic bullet. It wasn't in his case, I can tell you that. But at just over 9 months he's 88 pounds so maybe that was reason for the higher dose of pred? He's not overweight either, you can feel ribs quite easily. Just large boned and about 26 in. at the withers. I'll think about the anti-fungal topical treatment, but I'm hesitant to try too many solutions all at once. Maybe giving it a couple weeks with what you've all suggested is a good plan of action for now.
Thanks again to everyone who responded, we really appreciate your input.
Predisone had zero effect on my girl, her symptoms stayed the same, but she did get the rebound effect when we stopped the pills, she got much much worse after that.
My husband also reacted to predisone, the skin on his hands and feet peeled and he got a red peeling rash on his stomach, this started within 24 hours of the prednisone pack.
We steer clear of them around here after both of those issues.
He has a dog bed, but it's been washed a few times since. Nope, no switch in detergents.
Warmer here in Michigan this time of year doesn't translate to turning the heater off. Just to the snow melting So, the heater did stay on.
I haven't had the ducts cleaned since I've been here, over 3 years. I guess I can look into cleaning out the ickies.
Also, one more thought. He took the Revolution, and actually he's due now for another dose. I noticed this does prevent and kill sarcoptic mange, but doesn't say anything about demodectic mange (AKA demodex mites). Does anyone know if Revolution kills these? From what I can see, demodex afflicts puppies usually for about 3 months till most pups develop an immunity. Anyone have any experience with this? I'm not suggesting that this is what he has, but it might be remotely possible. Thoughts?
The Demodectic mange can be a real booger, Im not sure if revolution kills it or not, my guess is no,
Revolution isnt my favorite for fleas, I use it on our other dogs but for my flea allergic dog i use frontline spray along with sentinel. She is allergic to advantage
But also in a dog older than a few months an outbreak with demodex is a sign of a immune system problem in most cases.
