I saw that show as well. God Bless all those guys for their work, but I agree, the behaviorists don't have the best ideas. My personal favorite which really angers me is where they take a dog that's been starved, feed it, then stick a fake hand in it's bowl to move the food or push the dog away. When the dog shows any kind of aggression, they say "oh, this dog is unadoptable, it'll have to be put down". I can understand the liability with the dog, but duh! It nearly died from starvation, give it some more time!
Yeah not to mention they are usually doing this with a dog they have no bond with, have done no training with, and is still in recovery.
They really don't do any training with the dogs at all. I watched an episode where they were saying large dogs were difficult to adopt out because they pull like freight trains on a leash. Like, a generalized statement that all large dogs always do this.
I would think a dog would know the difference between a living thing and a doll. Zeus has stuffed animals he plays with, puts in his mouth, runs around ect but he knows the difference when the cat comes by which is the same size as the toy. Stuffed animals and real animals have scents correct? I sure didn't introduce Zeus to the cat by putting a stick up its butt and waving him around. I saw them do the doll thing on dog town also but in another episode they used a real child with a dog that had bit a baby. Which I believe was the childs fathers fault for gettin the baby bit. Its as bad as my local humane society giving out dogs with parvo. Makes me wonder sometimes about some places.
ours will adopt out dogs with parvo and distemper too.
I have had several heartbroken friends who lost their newly adopted pups to one of those diseases.

yes, mine too.
when i got the pups friday, they said that the pups had a cough, and some nasal discharge. Then they sent them home. I'm like, well, treat it before giving me pups that may or may not have kennel cough.....
i understand over crowding and low funds, but it is illegal to sell a sick animal in my state, i wonder if that extends to animal control charging me 100 each for 2 sick puppies.
Not complaining-i would have gotten them either way-but still.....
That's how we got Zeus, we originaly was going to rescue a puppy. We filled out the paperwork and waited there standard period. When we called to see if everything went through they said yes but asked if we could wait a few days because the pup was on antibiotics. We said fine and they said we were welcome to come and visit over the next few days. Well we went in and the cages were empty and they said the pups all died of parvo. Come to find out later the whole place had a outbreak, my vet wat already treating one dog from them someone adopted. I talked to some people from some other rescues and they were having it out with the place beacuse they knew they were sending out sick dogs but couldn't afford to shut down long enough for a proper cleaning. So on a impulse I got Zeus and never looked back.
