With a retained testicle I would not hold off too long neutering. The chance for testicular cancer greatly increases because the testicle left up is too warm. The neuter is more expensiive than typical but if you truely do not know what you would do without him then I would take precautions not to find out sooner rather than later.
Yes, this is true, however, I have been assured by my vet that waiting until Levi is 2 years of age will be fine, even if I wanted to wait until 3 it would be alright with him. The possibility of any problems with testicular cancer this early are slim. My design was to wait until he was mature in growth and then have the unreceded testicle removed.
After the visit the vet assured me that nothing was out of the ordinary on his testicle. Thing is, we couldn't find what I had seen the first two times I had looked myself. So, I will keep an eye on it. In the meantime, he gave Levi a fine bill of health.
