The main thing you want to worry about would be to not let the wound dry out. With wounds you only have so long until they won't be able to stitch them. I don't know how long that is, maybe someone else does. I Once had a dog get attacked by coyotes, we lived in the middle of nowhere and had no way to get to a vet until the next day. She had a very large gash through the top layer of skin, about 8 inches long. I was panicked and knew I had to do something until I could get her in, so I held an ice pack on it to help numb it and used a needle and thread to put in just enough stitches to hold it together. The vet said it was a good thing and he was able to stitch it fine, it hadn't dried out at all. I'm not recommending that you do this, but find some way to keep it from drying out. She really needs to be seen it sounds like. Did you call the E-vet and explain things to them? They have no sympathy?
yes-i called. they were very unhelpful-i asked if there was anything i should be doing until morning-and all i got was well-we can't say anything over the phone....
and about the money-my neighbors dog was hit by a car and dying-and i called the e-vet for them, and they would not accept payments-nothing.
and i asked again tonight, and again-i pay upfront or nothing.

Did you try looking up your vets home number in the phonebook? Do you know his/her name? They might not be too happy with you though, it depends on the relationship you have. I have known some who would go the extra mile, but not many.
Do you have any strong tape that you could try to butterfly stitch it with?

Yep, sounds like an e vet.
If the store is closing and a cone is impossible then the only other thing I can suggest is putting something on her that will prevent access to the incision.
I really hesitate to even say that since most cats will not tolerate wearing anything and she could easily make it worse struggling to get rid of it. You know your cat and know how she would react to wearing something around her middle.
