This is a final footnote to my original post that may be of interest to you regarding the ears laying down. I recently took Wolf to our local national brand pet store chain and happened to meet the sales rep for Nutro brand food. She nicknamed Wolf "windshield wipers" and showed me the amount of slack skin between the base of the ear and the skull. She explained that as the dog's skull grows, it will take up this slack and the ears will stand erect. Guess what, he is now 4 mos old in the middle of teething and they are standing tall. The teething theory may hold water, but in our case it was just a growth issue. Enjoyed hearing from everyone. Thanks.

I didn't for the first several weeks. Then I shaved them after hearing that it works better for coated GSD's. Frankly, I didn't notice any difference. If you dog is short-coated, i wouldn't bother. JMO.
Sometmes when you tape ears they take on a weird form because of how the tape put the ears. They'll find their own way to normality soon enough.
I wouldn't bother taping till 5 or 6 months old. I taped Yasko's weak ear for a week and that did the trick. His ear's werent even and his formerly taped ear was alot flatter/wider than the natural one, but they are both normal now
I hope you didnt start feeding Nutro because of the rep knowing a little somethin about ears
At 'soon to be 3 months' I think doing anything was premature. No need to worry at that age, and as others have said this is normal. My latest GSD is now 5 1/2 mo. and his ears have gone up and down a few times. They are both fully erect a beautiful now but went through stages.
It has mainly to do with the dog's calcium levels. Both teething and rapid bone growth have an effect on that. Get some treats that are fortified with or contain calcium and/or use cheese as a treat. String cheese is a great training treat and a healthy choice.
Can you expand on that opinion? I'm not talking about supliments, but calcium rich things such as cheese for treats, etc. We give our pup about one length of string cheese per day (distributed over the day) with a lot of it going in his Kong in the morning when he is crated for the day.
I had problems with my pup growing too fast. He got a mild case of Pano. I took him to the orthopedic specialist to make sure it was Pano. The Dr. asked me to stop the cheese, cottage cheese, yogourt, alfalpha/kelp suppliments for the first year.
Maybe because my boy was such a large boned male and we were worried one of the growth plates were not closeing as fast as the other.
For what it is worth, Doctor said it is not the proein levels that are the problems in pups but the balance of Cacium/phosphorus levels. He SAID it was safest not to add extras.
Sorry the first reply was so short. I was late for work.
This was just one man's opinion but he was supposed to be an "expert".
PS> The president of our GSD club said to add non flavored geletin. My breeder said Puppy Nutrical for the ears. I stoped the later because it had calcium. I did the geletin and the ears are up. (on their way anyway but might have helped).
