Find a trainer that has a reputation among law enforcement that is good and one that actively sells dogs to federal and local law enforcement.

It is a pity really, that only a few narcotics dogs are used here. Speaking of which, I had to laugh when the same collegue told me that once a family member once was detained because the narc.dog tracked a scent in his luggage. It turned out to be a chunck of cheese! I guess it was better than a pair of dirty, worn socks though..
But in my opinion our police officers could really use some police dogs (patrol dogs) and the exercise that comes with the K9 handling (no offense to law officers elsewhere).
I have seen some impressive policedogs (malinois) in action on Your Tube, I would love (and even pay) to see this live someday.
