Carol, I know what you mean about that Springer, James. He's a wonderful guy! My wife and I missed last night, darn it. You can bet I'll be watching/cheering tonight! :-)
Jim don't know much about Springer's as my breed of choice is the German Shepherd Dog. That said it made me very sad/mad to see the best of that breed, standing and walking on its hocks. Given that, there is no way that dog could do what a correct GSD should be able to, on an ongoing time frame. i.e., immediate speed, run, jump, sharply change direction.
I also heard the commentator announce that all these breeds in each generation were healthier and each had all had the instincts (necessary) for there function. Now that's news. Norman Epstein

Norman,
I agree with you on the GSD's at those dog shows.
It makes me sick to see the excuses for a representative of the breed they bring out and parade around.
Give me an import any day.

Wow there was one about 1:40 from the end of the video who was literally stumbling as she ran....... it is bad enough to look at them but the dog had to be pretty far along in its career to even get to Westminster.
No surprises........but..........why? None of the dogs appeared to be able to stand naturally and comfortably in the stack either. Glad I did not hear a clip with voice content.

Richard, I watched the whole thing from the website link above (Beagles) and Uno looked happy. That's so important to me, that a dog look happy. Several of those dogs didn't, unfortunately. I saw one Beagle give his handler the hardest time, he just didn't want to do anything, but it was a crack-up
I thought we were only one who noticed(G). IMO we should collectively view the Westminster as a marketing tool that benefits the AKC and or promotes the pure breeds that they anoint as the representative of that breed. In this way we can better understand the statements (and I am being kind) spewing from there commentators. Just for the record there has never been in the history of pure one, whose vitality, health and function has been maintained or improved by breeding to mirror the minutia of a standard. In fact just the opposite has occured. Norman Epstein

Jerri is nowhere near a good breed representative but at least she can stand up straight on all four.
Lisa
And she is a cutie to boot....
The ones I really think are not attractive are the tall, narrow types. We had one when I was young and she was a good dog, but I would be embarrassed to put her pic on here for she was not a good rep for the GSD breed at all.
