He will sniff it, grab a few blades, and scamper in a new direction. It's like anytime he sees tall grass, he wants to eat some. I even noticed in the yard a few tall grassy growths (yes,
Start watching what kind of grasses he is eating. Mine will search out bermuda when they just want to graze.
But when the tummies hurt ANY grass that is within reach is getting destroyed.

Mine graze a bit on plant stuff and greens, Nico sometimes looks like she is having a salad bar in the back yard. They all really enjoy veggies and some fruits and will beg for certain things like sweet potatoes or green beans and love frozen carrots as chewies.
I have some powder that is greens and kelp and herbs I got through BARF, it has tons of different greens as well as probiotics in it and I just sprinkle it on their food a few times a week.
Do you do probiotics, or digestive enzymes? Might be helpful with his tummy history.

Can I interject a fairly pertinent question?
Buster has always eaten alot og grass. He grazes like a cow if there any around and alot of times his stool is so full of grass its bearly held together by the rest of his waste. he's like a compulsive buyer only with grass; if its there, its too good to miss.
Is that alright? It always seemed odd to me but I let him because it just looked like a fetish.
Also, Lady only likes chicken gizards and liver. she wont eat any others most of the time (I classify heart as muscle). is she going to get the correct nutrition with only these?
Im starting to raise mice for her to eat but she wont be getting any for awhile....

One other thing I forgot to mention. I hear all the time people stating how wonderful RAW is in that thier dogs have very little if any gas, and the smell isn't bad like it used to be. Not my dog. He still has plenty of gas, and it is still smelly. Sometimes it smells like "broccoli farts" if you know what I mean. Could he be having a sensitivity to the kelp/alfalfa? Or maybe it is the grass he is eating? I don't give green trip everyday, just about 3 times a week.

How's the gas goin'?
Mine don't have a problem with gas, but I was curious what answers you got. I was surprised you didn't get any suggestions after this post.

He still has it often. Frequently they are "audibles" which send the kids running.
I was surprised I didn't get any input too, but just thought maybe it was a busy day and this thread got pushed to the bottom too fast. Most of us just check the active topics...
He still eats the grass, and has pooped it out pretty regularly. No more vomiting for a while though.
I wonder if what the vet thought was cloth in his intestine was really a lot of grass, could that be possible?

Hi Shody,
I'm not sure if this will help or not. True has been on raw a little over a year and he is WAY less gassy on fresh food than he was on kibble.
With that said, he has times when his stomach is upset (growly tummy noises that you can hear), he's eating grass, and he's horribly gassy. Beef is the one food I know for certain disagrees with him (it actually makes him vomit) so I don't give beef anymore.
Beyond that, it's really hard to determine the cause of the occasional stomach upsets and gas. Hard to know what comes first: eating grass=tummy upset=gas or is it the other way around?
I do give True a Pepcid when he's threatening to shatter all the windows and strip paint from the walls It seems to help calm his stomach down.

Hmmm....I really don't know. Seems logical that it might show up looking kinda' the same in an x-ray.
Does he still feel better? Normal?
I know this gas thing has to be something simple. Just gotta' find it.
Did you say you got some tripe?

He seems back to normal. Good appetite, nice stools, although they usually have some grass in them. He is playful and energetic again. Both times they x-rayed him, he had lots of gas in his system. Are there dogs that are just gassy? Could this be something related to vaccinosis? He had three sets of parvo/distemper as a pup, and one rabies.
Yes, I give him tripe but not every day. He mostly eats chicken. I also give him beef heart (no more that 8 oz at a time), sometimes frozen wads of chicken gizzard (frozen so he doesn't gulp, and they were really cheap), ground turkey, and organ blend, liver & kidney, (I rotate these every so often), once in a while chunks of beef meat. Plus salmon oil, E, C, alfalfa (I'm out of kelp). Pork he doesn't really like, and it kinda gave him the runs so I have backed off that for a while. He won't eat fish, and I haven't given canned fish yet.
That's about it. I wonder if it is the alfalfa? I don't know if anything else he is on would cause gas. Or the beef hearts?

Nevermind, I just read back through and saw that you do have tripe.
Does his stomach agree pretty well with tripe?
How is his stomach getting along with proteins other than chicken?
Still no connection with any food to the gas?
Sorry for so many ?'s. Pup deserves a break with all this upset stomach mess. I really wish something would just jump out and say "Heeeyyyy, look at me! I'm causing the gas!". It's just a matter of time........
