I completely agree with you on the kids issue Todd however there is just too much UN-provoked growling going on outside of this pups 'protected' area as she calls it.
I still would NOT personally breed this dog if it were mine. There are already enough GSD's dying in shelters all over the world because of weak nerves and fear aggression issues...
Thats the thing though. If this is a dominant pup, it has no rules. Maybe when being petted the child pet a part the dog didnt want touched. We all have come across a dog that didnt like its ears, feet, tail...messed with. The person at the vet...reached out slowly. Could easily be thought of as a threat. I stand by my post earlier.
I don't know Todd, maybe, but this sounds very similar to the way my wacky boy started out, and I can assure you, he is fear aggressive. There's no one that would try to dispute that if they saw him in person.
Martha, what type of body language is the puppy exhibiting when she's growling at people? Is her hair up? Are her ears standing up or back against her head? Is her tail between her legs or is it wagging at all? Posturing can tell you a lot about what's going on in an animal's head.

Now, your catching on... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Hey now, I started catching on a long time ago. At least I didn't ask if she had the dog vaccinated right before this happened. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
By the way, Martha, did she start acting like this right after she was vaccinated? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Yup that's right, the next time she tries to bite a kid that's crawling in her crate, pull out the hose and blast her right in the face. That'll teach her not to screw with you anymore <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> LOL
Just kidding, Martha. I know this isn't a laughing matter, so I apologize. Since there is definite disagreement as to what the temperment of your puppy is, it would be great if you could post more details about her behavior and posturing. That might help clear it up a little, since it seems this could be either dominance or fear aggression.
But of course! You don't think I'd suggest doing that to a sweet puppy, do you? What kind of monster do you think I am? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
