I stayed primarily to give a different perspective other than timeouts, head halters and neutering everything that walks. That is irritates some of the posters is only an added benefit.

I'm on one forum that is police canine only and must be a verified police officer to even view, one that is heavy working dog, (real name only), here and a pet board. Screen names can be used, however I use my own name. I started on that board only because of a discussion that trashed police trainers. You know how we are; making dogs do things they don't want to, that sort of mean things. I stayed primarily to give a different perspective other than timeouts, head halters and neutering everything that walks. That is irritates some of the posters is only an added benefit.

Ah yes, after doing some searching of your name, I think that's one of the forums I was talking about. I wish I could be as chilled out about it as you are. I just end up yelling at the computer monitor =)

I frequent several. I've learned as much from others as I have here, and frankly, snarkiness is not prevented by lack of anonymity, in my opinion.
I think without being able to hear tones and inflections, read facial expressions, folks too easily misunderstand one another, take offense, get angered, and flame out.
Add to the subject matter something other than training, and the potential increases exponentially. Politics and religion often produce arguments when folks are face to face, add the barrier frustration of online delayed chat, there will be fence fighting.
It's a wonder more threads don't degenerate and anything out there is useful! But there is, but it's often like mining to find it.
One good thing about anonymity is the internet never forgets an utterance. Ask Kwame about text messages. Bet he wishes that those might have been posted as 'damayor' instead.
It may in some case provide for more honesty, not less, knowing a google search of your real name won't reveal something typed three years ago while you were PO'd about some snide comment.
In this litigious society, and the number of cases involving bites, it's something to consider.

I belong to four SAR forums and Leerburg. All of them are informative. As they say..."Only believe half of what you read, and none of what you hear (gossip)."
Everyone has a right to their own opinions and it is always a good idea to share opinions, because that is how we learn. But we should not blindly let other people form our opinions for us. Form your own opinions through learning or experience.

I only use a few as serious sources of information. Many of them are not moderated enough and the end result - all heck brakes loose. The forums here at Leerburg are definitely on my top 3 list.

I go to a couple of other breed specific forums...however, they are very "clickish"...it is fun to have a place to post pictures of your dogs...but there are some regulars who don't respond to your posts if you don't fit their standards.
I'm new here, but am loving it...so full of information!

I go to a breed specific site, there's good info and bad. I've seen times where the mods have ganged up on a poster who disagreed with what they advised (I personaly thought the mods were wrong) I just like to read as much as I can, in time I figured out what info was going to benefit and what wasn't. I come here for training, diet and health info, everything is consistent and to the point.
