I couldn't find my old issue of Whole Dog journal, which reviews dog food but *if* I remember correctly, Merrick is considered a good food by them.

But my main question I guess is it a good food in general
I would never feeed crap in a bag
It does not look like crap in a bag to me but is it in anyway.
I like the label better than parie.
I dont want to hurt him in anyway
I have always gotten great advise on food on this forum.
And feel comfertable with most opinions on here I take most of them to heart.
This forum has done nothing but help my life with my dogs.

we have merrik here too, in a few different petstores too.
from what i can remember, merrik DID have some quality control issues, i read somewhere there was bits of metal in the canned food, but i don't know if that is true or not.
I can tell you that now at least, merrik seems to be a pretty darn good kibble, i have fed it before trying to get the pups weight up, and noticed no problems. Like others said, you can do MUCH worse, as far as kibble goes, it's great.
The only problem i have with merrik is personal, i prefer to feed grain free foods if i have to feed kibble, other than that, go for it.

what's the question here? I feel like I missed something... Are you wanting to know if Merrick is good? If merrick is good as a raw substitute? Good for travel? or just all around good as a kibble? Good as an addition to raw?
I just re-read.
Merrick is an extruded food. They have dehydrated pieces thrown in there, but the kibble itself is extruded. Extruded food, for those that don't know does a few things to food:
1) gelatinization of starch
2) denaturation of protein
3) inactivation of raw food enzymes
4) destruction of naturally occurring toxic substances
5) diminishing of microbial counts in the final product.
Plus, Merrick is grain heavy. The canned food isn't so much, but the kibble is.

Edit reason: re-read
When a flower doesn't bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower. |

I was trying to recall what the issue was... a recall, but for what..... thanks.
Here's the ingredient list the O.P. found:
Organic Chicken, Turkey Meal, Oatmeal, Duck, Chicken Meal, Whole Barley, Whole Brown Rice, Flax Seed, Canola Oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols – a source of Natural Vitamin E and Ascorbic Acid, a source of Vitamin C), Freeze Dried Sweet Potatoes, Freeze Dried Carrots, Freeze Dried Peas, Natural Dried Chicken Liver, Freeze Dried Apples .... the first ingredients.

I am mainly asking Is this foood a good food. my older bigger dog eats raw.
I do not want crap in a bag of course but I do not want to go raw with him just yet.
I also feed parie.
But I liked the the ingredents and thought it looked good.
So is this a good sub for raw for the mean time.
I know there really is no sub for raw.
Is this something yall would sugest to someone who would want to stay on kibble and not go raw.
The main question is is this food good enough for a dog/ family member in your opinions.
