The USA organization is not alone in this, the WDA shows are no better. I've heard the German shows are pretty dismal too.
This is really the first time all the bitework video has been made publically accessible. Perhaps next time, the bar gets raised and the judging be according to the written rules. That would certainly help get rid of the Santa judges and the 'trained in Germany' parking-lot titles.
The shame is that there are some shaggy black & red dogs that can actually work. They are getting hidden in the dross.
Or, maybe implement the capitalist solution ... $100 to the helper for each beautiful doggie he runs off the field.
Call it what you like, and of course I agree, the blame lies in the breeders/owners/trainers/judges. Plenty of blame for anyone who thinks this is correct GSD temperment. I would not own one of them.
Please educate me!
I know nothing (other than what I've read on this forum) about Schutzhund. But those dogs were so lackadaisical even I could see it. My 10 month old mixed breed pup has better drive...
What, exactly, were those dogs bred for? These are not from working lines are they?
I only wish those judges could have talked to Max von Stephanitz who wrote in the first breed standard:
A pleasing appearance is desirable, but it can NOT put the dog’s working ability into question! And to be certain he wouldn’t be misunderstood, he coined the phrase: "German Shepherd breeding is Working Dog breeding, or it is not German Shepherd breeding"
It's not just the drive of the dogs you need to look at. How about the drive of the handlers? The handlers didn't outperform their dogs either. Plenty of laziness to go around is what I saw.
So let's pass around some more well-deserved blame to the handlers and trainers of these poor unfortunate dogs who obviously weren't given any kind of fair chance to rise to their own particular potential. With handlers and trainers like that, we'll never really know what any of those dogs were really capable of.
I just took a glance at the judges' resumes and can't for the life of me understand why, with such "impressive" resumes, that these guys don't stand for something, something better than what they saw.
They are so at fault in all of this. It always amazes me that the "leaders" in any profession are often the worse jackasses in that particular field. So with these judges.
They are bred for the rich red color and to trot nicely in the ring
When first viewing the videos I could not figure out why the dogs were crawling while heeling...I thought maybe they were afraid of their owners or something. Then I figured out that that is the way that they walk due to their structure. Shocking

Remember, these are all 'SchH3' dogs.
So what your are saying is that even my Duck Toller could get a Sch title under the "right" judge Also shocking.
