I work during the day and can't take both of them to school in the mornings, get to my jobs, and get back at 2:30pm to take them home. Bus service is a necessity. If I don't live in the district there's no bus service. Believe me, I've lost nearly everything personally...I'm doing everything I can to not lose Brenna...but I can't delude myself.
I'm trying to see if I can get around the breed bans by showing that she's being trained to be a service dog or SAR, etc...it worked with one apartment manager but that apartment was more than my current rent house

Ask if the apartment owners would be willing to meet Brenna in person. They could see if she is trained and well behaved for themselves. Also maybe you could offer to pay a deposit or something.
You never mentioned if you had looked in to other types of housing than apartments.
Around here, renting a basement apartment in a house, a duplex/triplex or a room in a shared house, is much cheaper than apartment buildings and you might even get a yard to boot.

my neighborhood doesn't have basements I'm looking for a duplex but they're very hard to find, too, in this area.

Mike, I'm coming to this thread late, I'm sorry.
My heart really goes out to you...I can't imagine how awful that situation must be like. I don't know what I'd do.
I agree that you should post where you live, or update your profile to show it. Maybe someone near to you would be able to foster for awhile, maybe even someone on this board.
It's a long shot but it's not unheard of.
I wish you all the best.

Mike,
Hang in there. Been there, done that, still dealing with it. She got the T-Shirt. I'm sure something will work out somehow. The only solution I could come up with is to possibly get a room mate and split a place. That said, it is easier said than done.
I can't even imagine if I had to give up the dog I had at the time. Would have tore me to pieces.

Sorry , been there also . Gave up the career I always dreamt of because of it . I found my place (for me , kids and K9) through the internet . It's a townhome with 2 car garage (put kennel on 1 side of garage)dog is not allowed inside.
Made alot of phone calls and was turned down alot before I finally found a place. Hang in there I know it doesn't seem like it but it will get better (always seems to be ups and downs though) but it will get better. Good luck.

I feel for you brotha' Although I can't even begn to try to relate to the actual situation. All I can say is; I had my heart set on getting a GSD pup right about this time (planned for the past year and half or so) but I'm now finished with my second college degree and had to move about 75 miles away from my home and awsome yard for dogs.
To make a long story short; no apartments here, or town houses for that matter, will accept GSD's (and a bunch of other breeds). My lab is fine as long as an "intrview" with the dog went well, but absolutley no GSD!! Not that they know anything about dogs in general.
When I asked why not GSD? Becasue of Insurance or what, they just told me that they once had a "bad" experience with an aggressive GSD. As I probed more about the story I learned that the dogs (one actual police K9 and the other a pet, same owner handler) were lively and barked on leash. WTF??? Basically the dogs were "drivey" dogs with energy and jumped around a bit with owner, and obedient as hell when need be (as expected with k9). She thought the a dog going out to "play" and train was a bad thing, and can only be a "fighting" type of dog...
The manager basically didn't like large dogs that had energy and even thought she whitnessed the handler's control, denied a extension of the police officers lease with the dogs??
Now I have to wait longer to get a GSD.. UUHHGGHHHH!!!
Sorry man. Hope ya find a suitable home soon.
I HATE people that have no idea about what an aggressive dog is

Oh I got off on a tangent about how much I hate apartment complex's rules and banns on dog breeds but...
You might try to re-register your dogs with the local lisencing office to get your your dog registered as "mixed-breed"??. Any local vet will do the paperwork if you simply TELL them that the dogs are not pure breed and are some type of GSD mix. Perhaps, say that they are Mali mix, or some other type of "pointy" eared dog with lab mix. Nobody has a ban on Labs?? Who the hell can tell you other wise, less tey have a DNA smaple done??
Just a thought. I get sooo mad when people with no kowledge of dogs get involved with dog issues and S*#t...
Best of luck...
Adam

Mike
I am sorry to hear about your situation. Hopefully things will work out for the best. I am a teacher and in my district which ever parent has primary custody is the parent who determines where the students will attend school. It is possible to have the students attend a school in a different area, but you have to get permission from the principal of the school you would like your children to attend. Most principals are not especially difficult about allowing a student from another district to attend provided they are not any kind of discipline problem. Also depending on the age of your children, most of the schools here have before and after school programs so that you do not have to be there right at 2:30. You might also check into day care centers.
Good Luck I hope it all works out for the best.
