Lynne-
Yes, pup is always on a leash. She does get more worked up the more you try to push her away, so I usually just exit the room hastily if I can to isolate her, or just freeze. Isolation definitely works better than freezing, but it gets very exhausting! I've also been advised against ever reaching for or grabbing her collar as a means of reprimand so I don't usually go that route anyway.
Mike-
Thanks for the obedience advice. Will definitely look into the videos and pick up where we left off after our last class. I do realize that puppy is still young. Although I grew up with a dog, this is my first time raising a puppy and all the reading I did online before I got her still was not nearly enough to prepare me...kids are definitely much easier in many ways!!

Mike,
Can you explain further how people may think they are redirecting but they are really rewarding the dog. When Enoch chomps on my leg I quickly give him a toy to chomp on instead of me. Am I rewarding him? By the way why didn't anyone warn me that my arms and legs would be completely scarred with puppy bites. I have to constantly tell people I wasn't mauled by a bear but it's just my GSD puppy. They don't believe me.
Same here with the battle scars! I also have so many holes in all of my clothes for puppy razors latching on and tugging...pants AND shirts...mine is a JUMPER and has left bruises on my upper arms too! She has gotten as high as my shoulder length hair on occasion.
there is some discussion of this as i recall in the dvd on dominant and aggresive dogs. unfortunately i did not find it helpful because i found this web site at about 8 months into my dogs life. the dvd was focusing on younger pups. i hate to say this but my boy is one of those who can take a #9 correction without care. i found the e-coller to be the most effective tool in my training. the e-collor dvd is great. one thing i would add that ed has said is; one really good correction is better than a hundred mini ones. i have found that my boy really does not lose his memory when i have had to administer a correction that he respected. The best suggestion i have on e-collors is to get the dummy one and have him wear it on and off for weeks before starting his training with the real collor. This way he does not understand that he only has to mind when the collor is on. unlike the reference to the prong collor.
