That's the info I was looking for. I'm fairly new to this raw food diet, having just started with Cleo (now 4 mos.) about 6 weeks ago. The first few times she gulped a whole chic wing or a rib cage the size of two golf balls, I lost sleep worrying that she would have a bowel obstruction or perforation. Understanding a little about the canine digestive system helps me rest easier.

Sometimes I LOVE the threads on new raw diet feeders, and this is one of them.
Welcome to raw feeding and the world of poop inspecting.
I remember when I lost sleep and would get up to check on the dogs after them swallowing whole chicken pieces. YIKES, I thought it would drive me NUTS!! (well more nuts that I already am)
But after 3 years, I am way more comfortable with it now.
(oh yeah....the poops that turn chalky looking actually crush easier than chalk with a shovel....have not picked one up yet though.....heh heh.... )
Enjoy your pup and the benefits of raw.

We must be related somehow. I did the exact same thing at night! And you are so right about the chalky poop. Where we live in Hawaii, it's sunny during the day but rains every night and morning. Consequently, the poop dries up in the daytime sun, gets white and chalky and gets washed away at night.
P.S. I've stopped probing fresh poop with a shovel to see if it has long, intact chicken wing bones. Thanks to you guys on this forum, I'm taking baby steps
