any one here run a doggie day care??
Hey Michael,
I own, run and maintain a kennel. I do have dogs that come in for "day care" but it is run completely different than what you do.
Dogs here get one on one time with me or my kennel staff (depending on the temperament of the dog(s) ), exercise and play. Any work with the dog is done by me.
There are times when dogs can be out together (ie..same owner of more than one dog, pups that are pets and need socialization and things like that), but it is structured and they are not allowed to wander off and do whatever they wish.
I doubt you will find many, if any, doggie day care owners here, but you will find kennel owners and trainers that keep multiple dogs.
You will find that it is MUCH different than what you do.
I think you may have your heart in the right place (hopefully it is not money orientated) and I can only hope that you take what you get here, learn from it and apply it.
I think you would see that it will make a better facility as well as help you learn more about and understand more about dog behavior.
I know I have learned immense amounts of things here and it has allowed me to grow and become better at maintaining 6 of my own dogs as well as bringing other dogs in for training or care too.
Keep an open mind and prosper in knowledge......the best way to go in my opinion.

Anything is possible, but I am going to make a guess that with a forum so loaded with both trainers and working dog owners, one who operates a doggy daycare facility of the kind where dogs actually mingle freely is pretty unlikely.
As many people have pointed out, there are a lot of downsides to turning one's dog over to a facility that has strange dogs mingling --- and with a working dog, it wouldn't even be considered.
So while you are going to run into a large number of trainers here, you aren't going to run into a lot of people who would even use, much less operate, a group daycare facility.
Other dog-centric businesses, yes.
I say this as a general thing; I'm not picking on your particular facility here.

i have posted in the past that we also kennel dogs, the kennel dogs are out with the daycare dogs as well. there are many DDC in and around were we are, and no im not in it for the money, but the money is good, please read my post from earlier, all dogs are screened through a long process, people have stopped going to other kennels because of what we offer. dogs do not wonder and are supervised at all times, again im getting flack from what people dont know about it or what we do. people come to us for what we know and do, if i were in your shoes i would never bring my dog to a daycare,NEVER, thats what are thinking is, we treat all dogs like are OWN, our clients understand that, remember the clients I have arent the sick fanatic crazy sunsa beatches that are on this post, (I mean that it a good way)they are everyday PET ownwers, not ring, compitiontion, etc. we have done lots of research before opening our first place on the dos and donts, and yes we have learned as we went.

There is a point of view that precludes allowing strange dogs to mingle freely (and by strange, I mean dogs not in the same "pack," or household) without the owner's attendance.
That point of view would be universal among the owners of working dogs, and very common among experienced trainers as well.
The best doggy daycare facility around would not change that basic point of view.

I think the work Cesar does with his pack is amazing . He has saved alot of dogs ... The only negative thing I have to say about his show is it seems to have made owning multiple dogs very popular . Most people including myself don't have what it takes to deal with multiple dogs like Cesar does . ...
"... it seems to have made owning multiple dogs very popular"
I am sad to think that. I agree 100% with you that most people should not have packs.

Virtually all working dog owners and most experienced trainers/handlers would not consider group-type doggy daycare. It doesn't matter which one it is. It's a concept that just isn't going to fly with that group of people.
