Thanks for the responses!
I think I was expecting more people to say they feed once a day to be honest. My feeding routine has been working well for me and my dog so I think I'm going to stick with that for now.
I also have a fast day each week built in that works well before a full training day.
Just to clarify -- timing of doggie meals doesn't control or interrupt my life. A late morning meal after a run or bike and cooldown is standard as is a late evening meal after the activities of the day.

Really!?
I'm surprised that there were as many one-a-dayers as there were.
I hope more people respond. This is interesting, as I've always wondered what everyone else did, too.
Good question.

Hey Michael,
Just curious -- you said BIG meals are important to your feeding. I've seen your videos of Turbo eating various items. Are bigger meals important because you like to feed larger items to your little JRT?

My dogs are fed twice a day. They are on a raw diet, morning meals usually consist of meat only, evening meals have meat and bones/tendons.

I feed raw, and go with the smaller meals twice a day due to the fact that I can be called out for a search at a moments notice. This way, I do not have the worry of deploying my dog on a totally full stomach.
That sounds like a great plan for a dog that could have to be active at a moments notice.
Mine doesn't have a real job, so this doesn't apply directly to you, Carol, but it does apply to "stomach fullness" reasons.
Turbo can have a bout of HGE for absolutely NO reason. The first time, while being fed twice a day, was horrible. The last 2 times have been relatively mild and didn't require hospitalization.
I don't think the severity of the bouts was directly related to the number of feedings per day. I do think that the fact that his stomach was empty when the bout occurred, that his already inflamed digestive tract got a break because it wasn't having to work on food, too.
Part of the treatment for HGE is withholding food, just like with any diarrhea. Eating only in the evening, he had a head start on his gut soothing fast.
That is STRICTLY a theory, and is no way to be interpreted as factual medical advice.

Teeth cleaning. His teeth, even at only 2 years old, were horrible when he first started. They never really started to come clean until he started eating big stuff that he had to work on. They still aren't perfect, but I think it is more because of his teeth spacing. There are places that he just cannot get to himself to clean.
Probably most of all, is that it is HORRIFYING to watch him eat anything smaller than a chicken 1/4.
He isn't a very good judge about what can fit down his throat.
With big stuff, he has to work on it. When he does work it down to a smaller, swallowable size, its like he has a rhythm going and doesn't gulp food down then. He'll continue to gnaw it down to a more appropriate swallowing size. A size that won't get hung up on the way down and need to be brought back up for another go. Or maybe he isn't as hungry as when he started.
And I like watching him drag off a hunk of meat as big as he is. You busted me.

I was feeding once a day, in the evening. Since getting the pup I went back to twice a day. Mainly to avoid the dirty looks from the other dogs when Meile ate. I know, I know....
Also, my 5 lb. Chi can eat chicken legs and thighs no problem.
