Hello, I uploaded a couple of pictures of my dogs lip on Photobucket but do not know how to get them to this location. Sorry for being electronically impaired but hey I'm old. Thanks, Jack
Under the picture it says "Direct Link."
Click on the words "Direct Link."

Now paste it into a message here. If you are using a PC, it's probably "control V" -- if I remember right.
Thanks, If this works it is way too easy,ha-ha. Anyway this is one of his lips they both look the same. I don't know if there is a problem as since I have been using the wipes and ointment he seems to be ok I have an appointment with specialists neek week but may not need to go. The area in question is wherte the lip folds over and sometimes traps food/debris etc. Do all GSD have this fold/crevice?? Thanks,Jack

OH!
The second one shows the position better. At first I thought it was kind of a severe defect.
I have a different breed dog (a bracheocephalic senior) who has something like that. It is a defect, I think, but on my dog, no food catches in it. It's an inny more than an outy.
Is it on both sides of your dogs mouth? We can send pictures of both sides. It is worse on the right. When he drinks water the water really runs out all over everything. We have thought for sometime that his jaws or mouth or something wasn't right. The vets never comment. We even had his teeth cleaned and the vet didn't say anything about his mouth. When he brushes up next to my pants when we are playing or I am petting him dark marks (like streaks and dark pieces of something) come off on my clothes. Do you think we should keep putting the ointment on and using the wipes?

I had to go look.
It's much more pronounced on one side. But this guy has a lopsided face anyway.
I'd ask the GP vet.
If that's food in the pocket coming off on your clothes, I would probably be careful to clean it after every meal and every food-reward training session. I tend to do lil training sessions here and there all day long, involving food, so I guess that I would also have a mental schedule of cleaning it after each meal and then also maybe three times a day besides.
It looks like you could do it pretty easily with an unscented hypoallergenic baby wipe. I just looked at the ingredients of the aloe version I have, and I didn't see anything that I'd be worried about getting in the mouth.
I'd probably set the water bowls on big absorbent towels. (Yes, my house has dog-centric decor. )
And I'd have the second GP vet check it out.
I'd really want it to be clean and dry. I don't know about other problems it could trigger (maybe none), but the second vet will comment, I'm sure.
