All my dogs are chipped and tagged and some have leg tattoos. I am working on getting my younger ones tattooed. My tags have their name, my name, address and phone number on one side and "Reward" and my email address on the other side. The vet number is a good idea too!
My dog's AKC number is tattooed on their leg with "AKC" before it.
i know there's the issue of some pain killers and blood coagulating with tattooing....but there are some topical pain killers out there now for tattooing.
how do the dogs handle being tattooed? are they given anything beforehand (a nip of whisky? ), or just muzzle them and tattoo?
ETA: does the tattoo stayed wrapped for a few hours? cleaned regularly/salve put on? is it like w/humans?
When I had my male ACD tatooed they did not give him anything. I muzzled him because we were at an AKC show and while I did not think he would bite, I knew that ACDs have a bad rep and it would relax the person doing the tatooed if I just put a muzzle on him so I did.
