Wow, if this question was asked a year ago...geesh. Now I only have one dog, Murphy (breeding dogs don't live with me) one beta named "Fishie" and my daughter's horse "Shadowmancer" who is currently being leased. Oh, and a 16 year old 'humanimal'. We downsized and became very small over the last eight months. No cats for me, I'm allergic, but we used to have a bunch of the neighbors' cats that hung around in the barn to keep the rats away/exercise the dogs.

I have 3 cats that are mine(merlin, edgar and django), and one foster cat(thomas o'malley).
I HAD 2 ferrets(abraham otter III, and Sir Pepper)....but recently, bart decided that he would eat a hole in his crate, get out, get into a closed room, and kill them both.
no more small animals for me for a while i guess....i loved those 2 fuzzies.
I also have Fish, lots of fish. I have an Oscar, a Jack Dempsey and a Pleco in one tank, and 3 bettas(separated), who each live with some glo fish. Plus, i put various small tetras in my tank for the carnivorous fish to eat...that and i have a small 5 gallon "breeding" tanks for ghost shrimp, again, for my fish to eat.
when i have my house built, i am going to add a 55 gal African Cichlid tank....and move my big fish up to this beautiful 70 bowfront corner tank we have in the store.
I also have a ball python, Monty. he's 4 years old, about 4 feet long now.

I have a room especially for my birds with a flight area . It's open, none of my dogs bother my birds. The only time they go in the room is when They go with me or when my African Grey calls their name, they run into the room.
I really do enjoy them. They are so smart, especially the African grey.

The only animal I keep is the dog.
However, we live with all kinds of others. As short count, herd of deer that feed as a rule on the land scaping plants and apples, the flock of turkeys that drive the dog crazy every day of the week, at least two feral cats that hunt mice and voles in the fields, the beavers down at the stream (that also drive the dog stupid) we're constantly wrapping trees with wire against, the snapping turtle that comes with the beaver damn, wild ducks and geese that the beaver is also responsible for, a fisher I get to catch sight of once in awhile in the winter, various birds of one sort or another with a handful of crows and Red Tailed hawks topping the list for big avians but in the right season I get a sight of owls at night. When the fields are being mowed, the foxes can't resist coming out even with me around on the tractor, it's fun to watch them hunting the mice.
The list isn't all inclusive, but ya all got the idea. We rather in a manner of speaking keep all kinds of animals.
Randy
PS.
Ground hogs are shot on sight.

I have two Egyptian Mau cats, both almost 5 years old.
Kirara, the silver female, is fearless with extremely high food drives and is the smart one. She is very well tempered, never bitten or scratched a person even when I had to dunk her in a sulfide bath twice a day for a week when she was a kitten.

The Little Shippo is the bronze boy who is a tad more skittish but with similar temperament - never bitten or scratched, and very food driven. He is known as the cute one while the girl is the pretty one.
http://s434.photobucket.com/albums/qq67/siaty/?action=view¤t=IMG_0083.jpg
This is my favourite picture - Kirara just returned from getting spayed and The Little Shippo is giving her a hug.

I trained both of them to use the toilet to do their business, but had to actually go back to use the litter box after a few years. I was not home enough to flush the toilet after their every use. With two cats, if one went and the toilet is not flushed, the other will not go and will end up finding something else resembling a toilet and ended up going in it like the bathroom sink, bathtub, or kitchen sink. Also, The Little Shippo sniffed around the toilet a great deal before he went and Kirara would run by and gave him a good shove ... I ended up having a toilet-soaked cat running around the apartment.
Of course, I have the big black monster, who gets along well with the two cats. The only time I have to separate them is feeding time. The cats are driven for food and will and have tried to take the pup's food even when she is in her crate. Therefore, when the pup gets fed, the two felines gets locked in a separate room and they HOWL for food. If they are well behaved, I toss a few chicken hearts under the door for them and they are content.

This thread reminds me of something I think about fairly often.
You always hear about dog people vs. cat people, and there are folks who seem to be solidly in either camp. Then, there are animal people<g>...I guess I consider myself one of those, as I'd say everyone who responded to this thread is as well (well, perhaps not Will<g> . If I could only have one animal, no question, it would be a dog. But, thankfully, that's not the case.
I also have two cats, Boozoo and Mac, both rescues. I'd love to have some birds and ferrets and other critters too, but my main problem is that Boozoo is a pure carnivore (have you ever watched a cat eat a bunny or squirrel from heat to toe?), and I am not up to the management issues he would present with animals he'd consider to be his personal pantry.

Ah, I remember my degus.
Then there was the sugar glider.
I prefer dogs now.
They poop outside.
