Will,
Don't pack your bags yet. I have a friend who has lived his whole life in California and the worst earthquake he felt was in Montana!
Among other places, I've lived a few times in hurricane areas and
earthquake areas. At least you know hurricanes are coming. Stay safe.
Holy rising water batman!
3 inches in a little over an hour. Not gonna get concerned until it gets to my tires...
my friend and I are having a hurricane party and watching movies. So far so good, (and it's not even really a hurricane) nothing to report other than dogs refusing to pee because it's REALLY raining out there. Practically had to throw the boxer into the yard!
Will - check out Maine... very few tornadoes or hurricane issues there... just ice storms
When a flower doesn't bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.
Hurricane ike is turning into the gulf of Mexico and heading towards th US He is currently a cat 4
estimated time of arrival into the US 1 week from now
For you (if you don't already have these):
A camp stove, pan and canned food, utensils, drinking cup.
Sleeping bag and tent in case hotels are full.
Camp chair.
Toilet paper and trash bags.
Paper towels, baby wipes.
Toiletry items.
Bring a full potable water container.
Lantern/flashlight
A couple good books
Full bottles of prescription medicines, and business card of your physician. Insurance cards, too.
ID card, credit card, pre-paid phone card, and a fair hunk of cash.
Bottle of Tabasco sauce (everything tastes better with Tabasco sauce.)
Emergency contact information (who to call should you take ill.)
Water filter, or water purification tablets (iodine.)
Basic first aid kit. Include stuff for your dogs, as needed.
A couple changes of socks and underwear.
Bottle of scotch and a few cigars, if that's your thing (small pleasures mean a lot during times like this.)
(From a guy who has deployed to more than one hurricane disaster area.)
