Judging by his website... he does not "push" schutzhund. Instead he promotes just basic obedience/agility from the looks of it. However, I don't know what you want in a german shepherd?
I don't think there's anything wrong with the dogs on that breeder's site. Personally, I wouldn't buy any of them but that's because I'm a malinut person and anything with less than KNPV or ring titles on top and bottom doesn't excite me.
BUT...
The original poster said she's looking for a pet. While it's debatable that anyone not breeding to a true working standard (agility and CKC/AKC obedience titles don't count) shouldn't be breeding at all, personally, there's nothing on that web site that screams RUN! and I think a lot of us are being unnecessarily hard on the guy. What if he was a poster here? Would the views be different? Probably we'd all be congratulating him on his dogs' accomplishments.
To be honest, when I look at that web site I see a guy who likes old-style shepherd looks, and has FOUNDATION STOCK that might resemble working as opposed to AKC showing. But he himself is unmotivated to really WORK the dogs. I think the dogs look fine, are not spectacular but certainly not horrible, and I believe the original poster could get a very nice pet dog from this breeder.
She's better off going for a breeder she can form a great relationship with, pick a nice little puppy from, and enjoy a nice long lived pet. If she was looking for a true working dog I'd tell her to go to a true working breeder. JMO.
Posted while I was working on mine lol. I will agree. It sounds like she does want pet, correct me if I'm wrong, and if you are, you do not need a strong working line GSD.
No breeder should be breeding for pets
Imagin if breeders did nothing with their breeding stock and then continued breeding these lines - eventually what would you have?
To an extent I agree, but then again I disagree. About 95% of the dog people are people who want dogs as pets. And we eventually have what you call mutts. They make great pets! lol
If someone (and I'm not referring to the OP) wants a 'pet' and has no preference as to what they want in a dog, they can rescue. Yes, mutts, rescued dogs make wonderful pets - but we don't breed for them...
If we want to keep the GSD the dog it was intended to be, then it needs to be bred to the standard and that does not just mean that it "looks" like a GSD.

I agree with Lee. My pet peeve are those "breeders" who actually brag they are breeding "pets". What's really going on is they are breeding for people who want a GSD without a GSD temperment AKA lawn ornaments, pale imitations. Every working line breeder ends up with puppies not as driven and consequently not suitable for those looking for top or even club level sport/working potential. These dogs are excellent family dogs for people with active lifestyles who will do stuff with the dog other than watch tv. Go to a reputable breeder who knows what they are doing. These are the people who deserve your support. Not the "nock off" breeders capitolizing off the backs of the good guys. Wait for the right puppy - it's worth waiting for.
I took some SchH photos recently and a friend's husband (who admittingly knows nothing about dogs) was asking me why anyone would train a dog to "attack" (his words, not mine). I explained to him what SchH was all about and I asked him where we would get a PPD or Police dogs if we bred working ability out of the GSD?
If you want a Golden Retriever, buy a Golden Retriever - but don't breed GSDs to be one!
Oh we're absolutely not in disagreement that he shouldn't be breeding IF ALL HE IS LOOKING AT IS THE ABILITY TO GET OBEDIENCE AND AGILITY TITLES.
I am absolutely against breeding "for pets" but at the same time it's darn selfish and arrogant to say to someone not to own a GSD because they don't want to work it. My personal preference would be for this original poster to find a lovely non-working puppy from a breeder who produces one in their quest for a working dog. Many litters have a less drivey individual or two, which I believe would be suited for a non-working home.
But what got under my skin here in this instance was the way the breeder was being shot down when, let's face it, he does more with his dogs if he's titling them even in just agility and obedience than MANY breeders do with their stock after earning a name in the business. What if this guy happens to be a great judge of workability in a dog? I don't know him from Adam, I'm just giving some alternative food for thought.
