PS to the above post---please note--i am speaking of MY area's risks for parvo being higher than the risk of vaccinosis--i know it is not the same situation in other places. my vet also stated, as somebody else did here, that the titers are only a snapshot of immunity in that moment and b/c he cares for several parvos a week, (with many dying from it) he strongly advised doing the limited set (total of three, given 2 weeks apart, parvo and distemper only) trying to cover the open window left in coverage of maternal antibodies. i think in many parts of the "civilized" country there is nearly complete eradication of parvo and distemper, but not here sadly.

Aloha to Eric! I'm on Maui. Your Cleo is beautiful! (Peeked at your site) How was that? Importing her from the UK? We brought our 2 Belgian Sheepdogs in from Australia. Not too bad, but a hassle at the airport. (This was before they could fly direct to Maui) Do you show her? Or do obedience?

Yes, I agree with you. Parvo and lepto are awful here. Distemper is not so bad here on Maui, but half the dogs in Hana here on Maui have heartworm!

We had a litter last year (1st one) and they came down with parvo at 11 weeks. Our vet was wonderful, provided us all the meds, IV's and training we needed to nurse our gang here at home. We were able to save 3 of the 4. The littlest female got hit really bad; vet thinks it was a different strain that got her. She ended up at the vet's for 2 days and passed away quietly in his care. I shall never forget it.

The one male we kept is a year old now, healthy and happy. But I am still wary of where we take our dogs. There are some beach parks here that our vet recommended that we never go to.

Yes... we grow *super bugs* here in Hawaii!
