The only thing I have read about Filas, is that they have a VERY low threshold for defense, and not a great deal of prey. Also heard, maby on this board, they have such natural guarding instincts, that Protection training can put them over the top. Any body else hear this? Could any of this explain the dogs behaviour?
It depends on what your goals are. One mans junk is another mans gold. I found out that GSD people tend to bad mouth other breeds because basically they don't have experience with anything but GSDs.
Some GSD people have lots of experience with other breeds, and they still badmouth them because most other breeds suck in comparison. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I'm not badmouthing the Filas, just giving info on what I've read/heard. I agree everyone has different criteria.

I've heard the same thing about he Fila, very natural protectors, without protection training.
I also read in one incident rather then bite, when this dog shifted naturally into protect it knock the assaultant to the ground and stood him with its mouth at face level, growling. Imagine a 150-210 lbs dog standing over you growling in your face,, Whew sends chills down your back.
They look kinda like large blood hounds to me, but far more active.
I don't know if the firework incident, says much about her prey drive, I'm leaning toward she shift into defense mode, because she was startled. So like LSwanston and others stated, she needs to just be around fireworks more and more Ob for control(its a constant thing for us and them).
