With the exception of a few select products, most Nylabones are made from nylon or other plastic polymers.
Cow hooves are great for some dogs, not so great for others.
It depends on the type of chewer you have. Will your dog nibble and scrape her teeth over a chew, or will she try to crack the whole thing in half with her molars?
MY 7 month old AB puppy swallowed a nylabone whole. She chewed off the end and swallowed it, then a couple of minutes later she swallowed the rest of it. For 2 weeks straight she threw up bile every single morning. Then two weeks later, she threw up the end, then 2 days later she threw up the rest of it.It was black when it came up but it did not dissolve or break down at all! No more nylabones for my dogs. In my opinion they are dangerous. If she did not throw it up it could have blocked something internally. I like stuffed kongs and bully sticks, although the bully sticks smell horrific.
i have been giving cow hooves for a while now, the only problems I have seen are when they leave small chunks of them in the hallway, and i step on them in the middle of the night on my way to the bathroom.....ouch!!!
i tried the nylabones, they get destroyed, and bart in particular has a habit of going to the vet at least once a month for eating something/breaking out of something, so i have to be really careful....
mine still like kongs, so i am lucky in that respect.
i tried a bully stick for the first time this afternoon, they are too expensive(like 2.50-7.oo a piece!) for me to get them all the time for several dogs, but they really liked them, and they aren't as smelly as i thought they would be.
we sell cow hooves in bulk at work, plus i get a discount, so my dogs will be getting them mostly from now on.

This won't be true of many dogs, I realize, but I have one (small dog) who will work on one of the large ones for a couple of weeks, with me putting it away in between times.
The LB info mentions some dogs devouring them in 10 minutes, but it still might be worth a try. Even my inhaler-dog takes a couple of hours with these.

Kasey really likes those tires made by Mammoth Pet in Mammoth Lakes, Ca. We've had the extra strength black one for a year now and he hasn't made any headway on it yet - he tries hard! This company works hard at making toys that can't be destroyed!
Kasey has destroyed everything we've tried except these! It became a personal challenge for me to find something he couldn't destroy - my husband said I might as well just give him dollar bills!
My 4-month old pup seems to like chewing on plastic 2-Liter soda bottles. When the bottle looks like it's about to start coming apart, I just give him a new one.
I also read somewhere on this site about freezing wet rolled up wash rags. My pup really likes those as well.
