I also wonder if our "if you're gonna post something as fact you'd better be prepared to back it up" attitude keeps the forum pretty clean.
I see more than a few dog sites where people post training concepts or ideas that have been proven wrong so many times in the past but are still presented as fact by folks that don't even train dogs, lol.
That is a great point. More than once (more than a hundred times ) I've seen not just wrong but dangerously wrong training ideas posted as fact, but I have never seen them allowed to stand unchallenged on this board. I appreciate that more than I can say.
I have read posts on some boards that make me cringe and hope against hope that someone new to dogs doesn't read them and assume that they are good ideas.
A little off topic here Sarah, but I have a comment to make about "womanish" behavior.
When I was a kid I had a dog in the 60's. Then in 2006 I bought a GSD puppy. I did my research and found this board and I was utterly surprised and amazed by the number of knowledgeable female dog trainers. For some reason I always thought dog training would be a male dominated domain. Not so. You ladies here on this forum are great!
And I'm not just saying that because most of you pack serious heat

I couldn't agree with you more, Rich. Very knowledgable and very level-headed.
The amount of "Internet-warriors" on some other forums is incredible. Some people have a whole alternative lifestyle/persona behind a keyboard when they think they're invisible.
I love the realism on this forum - real names, real people, real advice, no B.S. and no ego-trips. I've learnt loads on here, am never afraid to ask questions and know I can trust the advice.
I like learning new things from women too
Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise. Seek what they sought.
Hi John - I'm an ex-member from another dog forum (Bulldog specific) and was chased out by torch-wielding villagers after I didn't continuously high-five yet another member who bred a monstrosity overrun with health issues.
The board would be filled with hundreds of photos of their dogs almost daily. They'd have "Butt Day" (yep, everyone would post photos of the ass end of their dog.) There would be "Dog Laying in the Yard Photo Day," "Chewing on Squeak Toy Photo Day," "Hey Look, My Dog is Yawning Photo Day," "Sleeping on Furniture Photo Day."
And the worst... posts written in baby talk as if the dog itself was the composer. I kid you not. I literally had cones and rods burst in my eyeballs trying to sort through the pablum.
I guess all that just to say... I like it here, too. FINALLY a board for people serious about dogs, the health of dogs, who love dogs but never taking it to "Butt Day."
