Oh....too far out of our way for this trip ....but I wanna! I'm the only one with a job right now, so we can't really plan extra vacations, but....hmmm....I've always wanted to hike in Washington.

Ashley, hmmm, it's along the way....we could do a hike on the Ice Age Trail on the way, and then hang out in the city for the night Wanna meet for dinner?
I am miserably out of shape, so I don't really "hike" so much as "meander along, stopping every few minutes to suck some air into my lungs," which is just peachy when I'm with my family, but not something I want to do with Miss Uber-Fit Marathon-Running Extraordinaire I would definitely have dinner with you and show you around, though! Madison is a fun place.

Well I do hike at all paces but dinner for sure would be great, and getting to see Madison too!
I've never gotten to go to this part of the States, the furthest west I think I've been is when I had family living in the Chicago suburbs. It's going to be really cool to see a new area.
Wow, I'm getting really excited about this trip! You guys are great!

definitely stop at the Badlands--when we went a few years ago, it was like "i can't understand why anyone even went further west", they are so intimidating. esp when you think the ppl were in horse/oxen-drawn wagons. it's truly AWESOME.
custer state park was "ok", wall drug you HAVE to stop at if you want to get some neat stuff, the black hills are beautiful.
and i'll bet carol will feed you so well you won't need to eat again til you get to the BH from her place

If you ever do manage to make it up here, we'll hike the Pacific Crest Trail.

'Cause it just keeps getting better.
You haven't seen anything, until you've seen Mount Rainier.

The PCT is on my list of trails to do! Ooohh!
Ann, good to know about Custer State Park. I was noticing they had several hiking trails, and I'm interested in the history of the area, but - it looks so beautiful, I want to hit the highlights for sure. Though I saw bison on the Custer State Park site....seeing them in person would be SO cool. I'm sure Luc would be having a heart attack though (once we saw a mounted cop, who was nice enough to stop and say hello, so Luc could see the horse, and let's just say Luc is intimidated by large herbivores ).

WHAT'S UP PEOPLE, MOVE IT MOVE IT!!!! AUGGGHHH! WHY ARE YOU ALL SO RELAXED??! I DON'T HAVE ALL DAY!!!! (while on vacation )'
