Well the wind has not died down, still running at least 30 steady with 55 to 65 gusts and the temperature is 34 degrees. So it has actually warmed up. Outdoor dog run gate locks are frozen, but the kennels are running over 45 degrees inside...I only had the one heater out for now.
Was not ready for a storm of this caliber yet.
The dogs actually love it. Let them out one by one to tear up the drifts and kinda tire themselves out chasing their ball through the snow. And it worked...hee hee.

Whoa.....!
We are having the same weather as Florida??? Cool. We had 40's to 50 in the morning and 70+ days all week.
Today supposed to be 68 though, a bit cooler.
Gonna drop drastically this weekend, high of only 45. Thanks Carol, for sending your cold weather our way! At least we are not expecting any accumulation. Yikes!!! I haven't even raked yet.
Edit; sorry I see Howard is in NC, not FL.

Well, the wind has died down, the sun is out, the drifts are 5 to 20' high, roads are closed and I am manning the radio at the fire station while our rescue trucks are out picking people up and digging people out that have been stranded in their vehicles for 36 hours.
We are still trying to locate an elderly couple and a female truck driver but we think that was a false call. I am hoping it was.
We had several ambulance calls (assaults from people drinking since there was nothing else to do) and we could not get to them. It was either the weather was too bad, or the roads were blocked with snow and ice.
This is my first wicked storm/blizzard since I moved here in 1999. We have bad weather, but this was horrible. The feeling of not being able to get anywhere when people need us is awful.
But we have to remember that we cannot help those we can if we are stuck in the middle of nowhere with no one to come help us out.

That is so sad. I never thought about it that way. It must be so frustrating when people need help and you just can't help them.

With the people stranded in their vehicles what do you do with them when you help them? I was thinking about this last night (I don't know why). I imagine it would take too much time, be too costly to take them home. Do you bring them back to the station with you or what?
It snows here, but massive blizzards are a thing of the past for us, and I was curious as to how these situations are dealt with.
Sorry if this is a silly question..

Wow, I don't think there's been anything like that since 1997 actually, not sure about South Dakota, but North Dakota and western Minnesota experienced storms like this one that winter, as did we but not quite that bad. We ended up getting mostly rain and ice pellets from this storm.
Now it's winter

Megan,
As we find them, we try to dig them out and get them back on the road since the plows have been out and the roads semi cleared. If we cannot get them out, we bring them to town and the fie station has hot drinks and snacks until we can get their cars out.
The community usually comes together really well in times like this. The little bar that is 18 east is owned by some friends and she stayed open and had 20 people there for 20 to 27 hours. She allowed each person to have two alcoholic drinks if they so desired but mainly she has hot drinks, pop and snacks for them as well.
We do what we can to help them.
Ron,
Still want the pool...but you guys seem to have weather that changes in an instant just like we do.
